Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just raced a crit with...

Michelin Krylion carbons. Front pack, diving the turns hard So that puts the whole "do they have enough grip argument to rest."

You're welcome.

I raced a crit with a five year old conti sprinter run at 170 psi. Dry as an old snakeskin. But only on the back wheel.

I was top 10 the whole race, did work. Felt good but torched my legs with 3 laps to go and fell back in the pack to rest for a second on 2 laps to go, as I was moving back up to the front there was a massive crash and its slowed me up, didn't quite make it into the top 20 unfortunately. Good day, just didn't come together at the end.

I usually race with Pro3 Races and have been meaning to see if I notice any difference in the corner when using cheaper tires. Definitely going to be leaving on the Krylions more often.

Oh, and I'm not scrawny anymore, I've been eating too much and now I'm 4 lbs over weight. My 5'11" ass is weighing in at a gross 159lbs!

Hi nick,

One of the crash victims was not doing well. There was a lot of blood on the road. My race (Masters 50+) was right after your race and we were delayed about 25 minutes while they took the guy away by ambulance and cleaned the blood off of the road.

I found out he lost some teeth and had a bit of a concussion. Seriously it was one of the more violent crashes I've seen, we were hauling ass.

I often inadvertantly ride through piles of glass and make it through without a problem.

Months back I bought a single new Maxxis Columbiere to replace the worn rear tire of the same make. Two weeks later I rear flatted with a loud pffsst. I replaced the tube, inflated with CO2 and POP! So I took a closer look at the tire and saw that it was sliced clean through. Brand new tire ruined! I looked around near where the tire initially went flat and found nothing. No obvious pile or indication of glass. Fortunately I was less than 2 miles from home, so I pedaled as far as I could on the flat in the lowest gear, then walked the final uphill .5 mile.

I ended up trying to repair the tire as best I could by laying a custom made patch on the inside using Shoe Goo as the adhesive. It worked to a point and enabled me to put another 300ish miles on it, but I reapplied the patch several times to do so. Eventually Mr. Cheapass bought a new set of tires. This time a pair of Rubino Pros.

Um, you need to drop 15lbs to weigh in at a gross. ;-)
