group rides in chagrin falls

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Join CTC Cleveland touring club.

They ride Willoughby/Chagrin area.
Weekly rides are Tue and Wed night and pickup rides on Sat/Sun weather permitting.
Great group all skill levels.
Living in Tx I really miss Sherman Rd hill that was the gold standard for climbing.
They also organize a big ride in June that is well attended.

Enjoy

Weeknights are 30 -40 miles depending on daylight.
Weekends can be 60 - 100.
I have not been a member for a couple years but they are a very cool welcoming group.
They have a lot of fun picnics/parties during the cycling season also.

Enjoy

They are open to letting you ride a couple rides as a guest you have to sign a waiver (helmets req.)

Sherman is off of Chagrin.

You have to stand all the way up Sherman or your front wheel comes off the ground.
Once you reach the top, assuming you haven't walked away from your bike, you turn right and then right again on Mayfield. Take Mayfield down and then rt on Chagrin back to Sherm for the loop.

Enjoy

it is a great area, generly very nice, cars are willing to give you room, but i get bored with just solo cuz when im solo i only really love doing eather really long rides, recovery ride or intense intervals. do you ever go on munn. i feel like its a gamble you cna go and get a great 30 mile ride with traffic but they are willing to give you room, or you can get people who dont really like you haha

Are you able to get out to Lakewood at 6pm for our Wednesday Night ride? We typically draw 30 to 40 riders and try to run 4 groups that are divided by speed and distance.
Here is a link to the shop that we ride out of. www.spinbikeshop.com

Chagrin Falls... Bicycle rides. I get it!

Sorry. Took a couple of tumbles recently and the brain is just....Chagrin Falls! Bwhaa haaa haaaa!

But seriously....

My wife and I used to ride in that area in the early '70's. We lived in an apartment in Warrensville Hts. and sold our road bikes (a Gitane and a Peugeot) to buy a Gitane tandem. We'd ride the tandem from Warrensville Hts. over to the Chagrin Falls, Hunting Valley area. The tandem didn't last, but the marriage did.

It's a nice area, but wasn't suited all that well to bicycles in the '70's, and obviously still isn't. I live in NJ now and have much better roads to ride on that any place in all of NE Ohio. I still ride in Ohio when I go back home, but the roads are crap and the drivers scare the crap out of me.

I live in Willoughbby and just got a Caad9 this weekend from Eddys in Willoughby Hills. I ultimately want to go club riding but I am light years from having the endurance for it now. I did 24 miles on Lakeshore today in an hour and 45 minutes and I am beat. BEAT. Of course I am sun burned like mad from riding 21 miles on Sunday.

I found the Lakewood group on line and I cannot ride at 25mph doing 50mile trips. I'm new to all this but 14mph is about all I can sustain. I would like to think that I can work up to such rides.

Keep in mind our "C" group is a max of 21MPH and the "D" is somewhat slower than that.

Maybe is there was a "e" group I could show up soon ! I am an absolute beginner so I'll have to work my way up to club rides. I'd like to be able to ride 50 miles regardless of speed ! I hope to be in the Spin cycle rides someday.
