Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Time for new helmet?

I was riding home today and a squirrel or bird or something dropped a pinecone on my head...it didn't hurt my head, but it made a loud SMACK sound...and helmets are one time use so...

no visible damage to shell, but dunno about the foam..

I doubt the pine cone had enough weight to hit hard enough to cause any damage. If it looks ok, then use it. Now, if you fell down and banged it on the pavement, then yes, get a new one. But I wouldn't toss it because of pine cones from a ticked off squirrel.

If a cinder block dropped on your head with helmet on, I'd say you better get another one ASAP. But a pinecone in no measure will cause any concern.

How big was the pine cone?

We used to live where they had Coulter and Sugar Pines. Those cones are humongous - like 18 inches long and 8 inches wide, and they weighed a lot.

Otherwise, keep the helmet.

LMAO! Please tell me this is a joke! If not, I definitely want to know what kind of flimsy helmet you were using?

it was a giro but it's a pretty decently sized pinecone.

and people have mentioned that a bike helmet shouldn't be bought if you see someone drop it on the floor on accident from a shelf so lol

I bought a new one two weeks ago after I observed my eldest son using it as an arm shield to fend off his friend from over the road who was trying to smack him with a broom handle. Apparently all in good fun (Power Rangers or some other banal show re-enactment). I was not amused. There were dents all over the damn thing.

I think that it depends. If your helmet color clashes with your bike, then this is definitely an adequate cause for replacement. If the colors match, no.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you hit the pavement with your head at 25+ MPH, Like I did then its time. Oh well just an excuse to get the new atmos!
