Something some members of this site need to think about
I thought that forums were all about helping one another out and passing down knowledge from those who know. seems to me this site is more about..."this is our club and you cant be a part of it". I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who feels this way as Bikeforums has a reputation that is discussed among other forums. Dissapointing since there is such a broad variety of knowledge to be handed down from such experience. To bad a majority of members here feel more of a need to harrase and put down new and motivated cyclists who are simply looking to learn.
I understand that for those of you who have been here a while you end up reading the same question 100 times and forget that is the first time that particular individual has asked it. I have read it hear a couple times that the search option sucks. So for a new member to automatically know how to search the forum for posts is not realistic. I am an eager cyclists who wants to become better. The only way I/others will know things is by asking questions. sure there is a certain amount of forum Etiquette but that is something to be learned as you adjust to the forum.
For someone to say "get a thicker skin" is ubserd and makes me want to not come back. (which I am sure that there will be people who say.."good, dont come back") That just goes to prove my point that this site is full of arrogance and cold shouldered ass holes. Again I know others who have felt the same way and have never come back because of that very reason. I would think you would want to have a warm welcome and make new members feel at home and a part of things instead of being a bunch of know it all cycling snobs. The amount of sarcasm and rudeness allowed in this forum is appauling.
I have done a lot of research through this site and found some people very helpful. In my reading through threads I see more people being sarcastic and rude than helpful towards the question being asked.
I wanted to be a part of this large and knowledgable site, now I'm not so sure. This is not meant for every single perosn on the site as there are some good people I'm sure. I'm just not sure if people realize how they are effecting the growth of this site.
now...back to the sarcasm and flaming.
Best regards,
Nick

LAWL.
I recommend you check out weight weenies. Visit for a few weeks, try to post anything, and I mean ANYTHING, that doesn't have to with with stripping every "excess" gram off your bike has a greater than even chance of being locked or outright deleted. If you protest, the moderators get their jackboots out and place them on your neck.
While there are some asses on here, this place is a paradise compared to other places. I myself am a "refugee" from weightweenies and this place is actually helpful, rather than interested in listening to the same old tired posts made by the same dozen people in an endless circlejerk about how awesome they are. Report people when they break the posting guidelines, ignore the tards, and glean whatever knowledge you need out of the voluminous amount of posts here.

This site isn't that bad. There is a hair trigger on posts that could be trolls, and granted a number of these are probably real questions.
But for the most part I see a lot of basic questions being answered.
That being said, some people need some tough love at times, myself included.

The worst part, to me, is that it seems that some people are allowed to get away with things that others get in trouble for. They tend to be people with stars by their name.

Nick, you didn't just describe Bike Forums. You described the world in which you live. There are always going to "cold-shouldered *******s" and there will always be "clubs and cliques."
If the internet is bothering you this much around here, then just avoid the place. I think it's absurd, but I don't vent my feelings. Doing that on here will get you automatically flamed. If you don't like it here, don't post here. It can't get any simpler.

As for getting away with such things, I've been banned for saying such things.

You can search BF using Google. Enter "search terms" site:bikeforums.net in the search field. Now go forth and battle the forces of ignorance.

so this is all about shaving? how sad
lucky this is the internet and not high school. OP would be pinned down and have his butt shaved by the jocks.
