Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

post ride rituals

I am curious if and what rituals you have after you ride. Mine is as soon as I get inside my apartment with my bike I quickly wipe down my bike with windex and paper towels, then I will do two sets of 100 crunchies and one set of either 100 bicepts curls with 20 pound dumbells or two sets of 50 push ups (I alternate days with curls and pushups) but always do my 200 crunchies in two sets. Then I either start to boil water or warm up my stove while I jump in the shower so I will refuel properly with FOOD

You are a nut. When I ride from home and hook up with my 3 buds for our Saturday morning 85-90 miles, 19+ MPH of fun and games through northern Maryland and souther PA, there is no way I am going to lift or do situps or push ups when I get home. I can barely get up the stairs! My bike stays dirty, I take a shower, eat a boilbag of brown rice and what ever else I can stuff in my face and take a nap...

You got that right!!

The bike goes into its place in the garage. The waterbottles get thrown into the sink for my lovely wife to take care of. I crawl onto the living room floor and get jumped on by my two sons. After ten minutes of that, and assuming I'm not knocked out, I go crawl into the shower. Then I go on a food hunt!

After my morning rides I walk in, strip off my bike clothes, do my post ride stretch routine, start some coffee, eat a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, and kick back on the couch with my wife and the morning news paper.

It is funny how I stick to this routine pretty much religiously. Post ride stretch routine and pb&j is just automatic no matter what time a day I ride.

Always a fresh cup of java and pastry at one of many local coffee houses. I like to relax and daydream a bit... before heading back home.

On the way home from my ride I pick up a Fosters master cylinder. Get home..shower,plop in my chair, turn on some tunes and feel the lager take effect. After that I eat a bit and do whatever it is that needs doing

Drink water, enter data into Bikejournal.com and Fitday.com, throw bibs into washer, take long, hot shower, devour me some food, take a nap...this is for weekend ride BTW...

For weekday ride just omit the nap...

Sorry to hijack this thread.

Did you setup a custom database to track your ride data or is it an existing plugin for FileMaker? Maybe you can PM me off thread. I'd like to start keeping track of my miles. I've also heard about bikejournal.com and am considering that too.

Back on topic. When I get back from a ride I drink a ridiculous amount of water and forage for salty food, usually followed up by showering and hardcore vegging.

After my weekend rides I put the bike in its place, take off all my gear except shorts and jersey, enter my ride info into bikejournal.com while eating a snack (normally a peanut butter sandwich and gatorade) then jump in the shower before the wife passes out from the smell. Rest, then find a nice restaurant to have a good meal.

Weekday rides are the same except for the restaurant part....substitute going to work for that.

Strip, stretch, shower, eat a powerbar, put on fresh clothes sans undies. Nothing like freballin' after a ride. On some weekends if I have stuff to do outside I'll skip the shower part and do it after I sweat more outside.

two after ride senarios:

1) end up at my apartment, where i water my plants with the left over water from my waterbottle, search for and eat food, then shower, and then generally taking it easy.

2) end up at my g/f's apartment, where i take a shower first (usually at her request), make food, and then if i'm lucky, i get a nice massage. soooooo nice.

I'd NEVER end up in my apartment if I had option 2) available!

I eat something as soon as the shoes come off. I have always heard that there is a limited window of eating after exercise to maximize recovery, so I don't mess around and I start eating right away.
