I can't seem to fit everything in my mini saddle bag. Am I carrying too much?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i guess i am using one thin tube and one regular conti tube. i am not a fan of thin tubes at all, and i am sure i could fit 2 regulars in there.

ok so i put in the conti tube first. i place a thin cardboard clothing tag over that tube so there is no friction when i squeeze in the second tube on top of it. between the cardboard piece and the tube is where i put the rubber patches with the sandpaper. tire levers and valve extender on the side, co2 on the other, and co2 head gets squeezed in the back. take advantage of small things in the back since it narrows out and two tubes wont fit snug to the back.

get the second tube in and the patch glue.

zip her up. i still have some room at the broad end of the pack, that is why i think i could fit another regular sized tube in there.

Thx, I have the large bag and been thinking about getting the small one but was worried about getting enough in for the long rides. I also haven't had good luck with the super-thin tubes and hadn't thought of using it as a spare instead of a main (I've got 3 sitting around). Thanks again.

Why do you have two tubes but only one C02 cartridge?

Tiny seat wedge that carries 1 tube, 2 co2 canisters (I'll lend anyone helping hand), air chuck, patch kit, and multi-tool/tire levers.

Jersey pockets for iPod, cell, wallet, and food.

Small question. How do you inflate the second tube with one cartridge? From someone who has had 3 flats on one ride.

You don't. I take two tubes, two Co2 carts, and a mini-pump. I also hope I don't get that third flat (or botch the Co2), cause using that little pump always looks like a monkey ****ing a football.

I like the Cage Rocket to put cell phone, keys multi tool and patch kit into. It is a container that fits into a water bottle cage. I can transfer it from bike to bike and I can carry it inside, should I need to lock up the bike. See:

i carry another co2 in the jersey pocket with my mini pump and multi tool. if i have more than two flats i have the patch kit and mini pump. while the mini pump is a beotch, i can manage to get it up to ~95 psi. enough to get me home!

so in all. this leaves me with three relatively small objects in my middle jersey pocket and the cell and wallet in the right. comfortable.

Stuff you probably won't need, you put in seat bag - spare tube/patch kit, minipump/co2, tire levers, multi tool, wallet maybe.

This. Makes life simple, the stuff you need with the bike stays with the bike. Fewer things to worry about on the ride.

And if you start putting stuff you use off the bike in the seat bag, then you've got to mess with the bag twice every ride. And you end up leaving stuff in the bag that you need off the bike, and leaving stuff at home, that you need on the bike.

And its pretty easy to get everything you need in a small wedge seat bag. I have a tube, mini tool, patch kit, tire levers, C02 cartridge, mini pump, spare spoke (the kevlar fiber type), tire boot, and chain pins in a small pearl izumi bag. Short of destroying the frame, there's everything in there you need to get home from about every possible breakdown.

There was an older thread that featured ideas for bags to store a repair kit in your jersey pocket. Anyone remember the one I'm talking about? I'd like to ditch the saddle bag altogether.
