Upgrade on 2010 CAAD9, Help?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Upgrade on 2010 CAAD9, Help?

Picked up my 2010 CAAD9.6 yesterday. I was wondering if I should part out the component and sell them on ebay and invest on SRAM Force groupset (BB30). What's your opinion?
Should I invest on new groupset such as force or should I put it toward Red or perhaps upgrade the wheels? (I'm looking at SOUL S4).

Opinion welcome. Thank you!

How new are you to riding? Ride it for a while and work on the engine. You'll also get a feel for what you like and that will help you decide what parts you want to upgrade. I started with a CAAD9 with Sora and rode it for a year. Bought better wheels the next year and a Red group just recently.

Spending money on bike parts you don't need to upgrade a bike you just bought is not an "investment."

Take the bike back and buy a bike with the components you want on it. You will save money and have a reasonable warranty from the lbs. From your post it sounds like you really don't know the difference.

I actually agree with BikesAreCool123. If you can't take it back then ride it until you actually need to upgrade it.

Speed is more in the legs than in the bike. You will need to be at a pretty high fitness level to notice much difference in components.

I'm all for spending money on bikes, but the above just seems most logical...

LOL, $300 or so would have at least got you the 105 spec'd model.

Just ride your bike as is. With brand new components, you won't be at a disadvantage. If you get passed left and right by other cyclists, you'll know that only the engine needs upgrading.

Maybe he liked the color... the way they 'paint' (really more like a sticker) these bikes is so damn arbitrary anyway. IMO, the best current CAAD paint job is the red and black CAAD8S-6.

Yikes, you've had the bike for a day and you already want to upgrade? If you had the money for upgrades, why did you not buy the CAAD-9 with the groupset you wanted?

I was originally getting the CAAD9.4 but didn't like the "color" scheme. I previously owned a 2009 CAAD9 with same groupset as my current 2010 CAAD9. Then upgraded to a 2010 Tarmac with 105. As far as upgrading, well I like to dissemble thing and reassemble it and decided if it was logical to upgrade or not. Many mention some good point which I have considered. Perhaps I would upgrade slowly later when I'm 100% sure its something I want to invest in. For now, I would enjoy my ride (once it stops raining). Thanks for all the useful input everyone. I decided on getting a Garmin Edge 500

i would recommend new wheelsets. i was amazed at how much of a difference i felt when i upgraded my stock wheels (shimano rs10's) to ksyrium elites.

i'm skeptical of upgrading components though, b/c I doubt i would be able to tell the difference.

someone told me the upgrade where you'd feel the biggest difference is the wheels -- so that's what i did and i'm very happy with it.

I would simply take it back and get another CAAD with a better gruppo. That being said, my CAAD 9-6 came with Tiagra, and I'm still riding it. When I upgrade it, I want to substantial upgrade, not just a little one.

I'm looking at upgrading to Sram Force in the future. Upgrading to 105 or Rival would simply not be worth the upgrade, in my opinion. If I'm going to spend $1000 dollars or more on a gruppo, I want to get an upper mid level gruppo.
