Performance Bike Forté Titan wheelset review

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The earlier models of these wheels had the flower-pedal-style hub flange on the drive side of the rear wheel. Some of these hub flanges cracked. This design has been improved.

They look like great training/trainer wheels! I'm surprised Performance doesn't use these on their mid end Scattante bikes instead of that ALX garbage.

The new Apollo wheels look great too, losing 100 grams over the Titans and having nice 30mm deep rims to boot. Seems to compete well against Ultegra and Ksyrium Equipe. Too bad the plaine jane all silver color is the only option.

Neuvation wheels are about 250g lighter. I'm guessing there's some weight savings in the hubs... and possibly spokes.
The Neuvation hubs appear to be the same as the ones on my Forte Titans. I have a hard time believing there's any difference at all, other than maybe the color.

Also note that the Titans have a steel freehub body; most cheap wheels that are lighter have aluminum...

Steel freehub bodies wear better. (Deep-spline 10-speed aluminum freehub bodies are probably good too.)

I'll throw out another positive experience with these wheels. I've got about 1000 miles on mine. I weigh 180 and have had 0 problems despite riding on sometimes questionable surfaces. for $160 bucks AND the performance guarantee, I think these are a hell of a deal. Plus, I bought mine on a double points day, and later used the points to get a set of pedals.

That would be too practical a way to spend road money.

So you only spent $150 on wheels and still have an 18-pound bike?

I'm doing something wrong.

Got mine for $107 at a Performance store. I have put well over a 1000 miles with no problems.
