SRAM Red at $1400?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM Red at $1400?

I've been doing some shopping for an '10 Red group. The lowest prices seem to be on eBay at $1400 for an 8pc group. It's less than retail, but what do you think of the deal?

This isn't about comparing it to other groups, btw. Just about whether this is an attractive deal or not. I've been thinking of upgrading to Red for a while, just monitoring prices lately.

That's about $200 better than PBK's best sales and promos for Red. So depending on who the seller is, I'd say that it's a pretty good deal. If it was me, I'd only purchase from an authorized SRAM retailer as any warranty claims have to go through the shop that sold you the component(s), so you might wanna find out if the eBay seller would be able to help you with that should a problem ever arise.

pbk has them on sale now. and if you are not idiotic enough to buy into the whole ceramic bearing crap for your BB, you come out at $1250 for an 8pc group ($1375 if you are idiotic enough). problem being, you need to wait for some of the parts to become available. enter code tdfusa for the 10% off

also, check with tom at gvhbike, the kit calculator is here: https://www.gvhbikes.com/kitbuilder/kitbuilder.php4

yeah, 2W (i'm being generous here) of drag reduction for an additional $125? look, we are all idiotic enough to spend thousands on bikes and bike parts, but buying certain things is even more idiotic than the baseline

If you're spending that much to begin with, you might as well go full on!!!

YMMV, but I've had warranty repairs done through my LBS, and I bought my whole Force group on eBay. I guess it just depends on your relationship with the shop.

Are we looking at the same website? SRAM Red is coming up at $2003.91 here (10% sale price), and $1840.07 after the additional 10% discount (TDFUSA coupon).

Check out Ribble Cycles too. They offer discount pricing all the time and run addition percentages off during special events. I paid somewhere in the 1300.00 range after 22.00 shipping to the US.

mcjimbosandwich, I'm one of the idiots who went with the ceramic BB. I haven't installed anything yet and my consider using the regular BB. I only paid about 100.00 for the ceramic BB though so I might now be worth making the switch. The ceramic BB also requires a lot of maintenance (greasing every 100 hrs of riding I believe).

Also, I subbed a Force FD and a KMC X10SL Gold Chain rather than Red...

I was thinking about that...there are a LOT of groups on eBay. It would be fine with me...my bike is an 09, so even a new 09 group would be cool. '10 red is good enough for pro riders, good enough for me.
