aluminum frame repairs/ frame dents

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pics would be helpful, but "two small dents on the top tube" doesn't sound like a safety issue. More like an aesthetics thing. Bondo?

Al frames aren't normally repairable. There are lots of Al bikes being ridden with small dents in the top tube.

I wouldn't worry about it. Aluminum can't be bent back and forth without losing it's strength and fatigue life I think.

Ditto the aethetics.. Aluminum especially thin wall is prone to denting.. no big deal. If you want to get rid of the dents (and again a pic or two would be helpful) you ill most likely just fill them. I like JBWeld epoxy. But any kind of filling will have you take the area down to the metal. Are you willing to sand it down, fill it and then repaint the area? That's really what it is going to take. Otherwise just ride it.

but there is a picture? i edited the original post so its wayyy up there i could care less about the cosmedics, but if it would be more structurally safe, i would take the time to do so.

I think you're going to have to try harder than that to make your bike unsafe. Ride it, don't sweat it.

The pic won't come up. This would be purely for covering up the dent. No this would not affect structural integrity.

I can hardly see the dents so I would say that there is nothing here that would affect your riding at all.. One of my Cannondale frame had a tire rub through the chainstay. I still do not know how someone could have ridden a bike with the tire rubbing on the chainstay.. Anyway, the rub was enough that it went THROUGH the aluminum and made a hole. I epoxied it up with JB Weld and it's one of my favorite rides... You're really going to have to hurt this bad (especially the top tube) in order for the frame to fail in any way.

dented aluminum tubes are very common, especially on mountian bikes. unless it is a massive crease or crack, ride it!

I bought a used Cannondale with much larger dings than that. Been riding it for over 2 years and no problems.
