I found a nice GT road bike on craigslist, however, I'm not sure if it's worth the 300, can someone let me know if this is a good deal or not? For my purposes, it would be great, it has rack mounts and everything for my commute, but I'm not sure if its steel or aluminum.

Thanks

Well it's already gone, so it was probably one hell of a deal.

you didn't link it correctly. i'd say $300 is fair, assuming the frame fits you.

Is it the blue "Classic GT Triangle Frame Road Bike" located in South Pasadena/Arroyo? I believe that is a steel/chro/moly frame.

Offer him $200.

If that's based on the Edge frame series (early to mid 90's) it's actually a very nice steel frame and weighs less than its aluminum counterpart. As with my peeve with most of these ads, though, the seller doesn't list size or components (or at least the specific model... it's a sticker on the bike for Pete's sake). It is old, though, and brifters from that era wear out.

Actually its got RSX shifters is that good? And I think he took the listing off because I already offered to buy it from him.

Not really. If I recall, that was the lowest line that you could get with brifters (a new invention then). I would compare it to Sora today. That also leads me to believe it might be the heavier of their steel road frames at that time.

The listing is still there. Your link just didn't work because it got abbreviated in the link and not just the text.

I think I found the bike specs. It had an MSRP of $598 12 years ago.

What's your size and budget? I'll let you know if I find something better while I do my usual perusing of Los Angeles Craigslist.

The most I'll spend is $300. I think I need a 58-60 cm, I'm 6'0, and I'm looking for a newer road bike (1990 and on, and I don't like the look of skinny frame tubes on old road bikes), with brifters (no downtube/handle bar shifters). I might go for a flat bar roadie, but that all depends on the bike.

Anyways, thanks a lot for the help.

I've found this Cannondale and offered 320 for it, asked her what components it has, is that a decent offer/deal? Or if anyone is familiar with this model?
