Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hmmm, luckily most of us have other options. If this entree was all there was to eat, I believe the phrase, "I'm still too fat for this sport" would no longer have merit.

Meh, there's are at least 700 calories in my typical lunch. I do get more than one meal a day. Plus ice cream, of course.

I completely eliminated refined sugars, white flour, and white rice from my diet and lost 15 lbs in a couple months. I didn't think I even had that much weight to lose... I'm 6'7" 170 lbs

I'm losing a LOT of weight from riding and not watching my food intake. In fact, I'm eating more that I did before I was riding every day, because I'm putting on muscle. I'm putting on muscle and losing weight--That means I'm burning much more fat than even the flab-o-meter registers when I step on it.

You know what? I'm lazy. I don't like to exercise. But riding forces me to work out. I have to spin up that 200' hill every day to get to my job. When I ride 20 miles from home over hilly western PA terrain, and then get tired and turn around, well, I still have to ride 20 miles back. That's the key. I can't just say, "ok, that's it, I've had enough." No, I have to push my limits. I'm forced to. That's the secret to my bicycle weight loss.

Exactly. I sometimes look out the window and say "Oh do I wanna hit the road right now?". Then gear up, I bang out 50kms, get home and realise:

The only bike ride I'll ever regret or not enjoy is the one I don't make it home from.

I'm the same height as you and people told me the same thing at 170. Wednesday I weighed in at 158.9lbs, so seeing what they say next time I go back East will be fun.

There ain't much of a choice, burger, hot dog, and fries. May have a chicken on the menu but I haven't looked for it. I occasionally get it to go and bring it back to the office. The brown paper bag is clear by the time I sit down to eat.

Thinking bacon, cheese, mushrooms and mayo for lunch today...

Not a picture of my actual lunch. I usually have aged cheddar and a soft cheese like brie or sheep's milk cheese (from a local farm). Apples from the tree in our yard and/or some other fruit in season. Bread is usually homemade.

Anyway, cheese has protein. Apples are a source of fiber. Grains from bread.

Interesting how everyone around me who states “you look too thin” or “you don’t need to lose any more weight” or the classic “you look unhealthy” are folks who don’t ride...hell…don’t do anything that requires effort. I’ve given up saying anything as it always seems I end up defending or justifying my activities and healthful regime. At least here folks who are stumbling through this multipage pre 4th reminder to eat less during firecracker weekend ultimately know what they’ve got to do.
