Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They seem to have a lot of these sets in stock, and no more twin-pack GP4000 S, so it looks like they're clearin' house. $70.30 plus additional 10% off with promo code TDFUSA ~ $63

How are the Attack/Force tires different/better/worse than the GP4K?

They are much worse! I reckon they're horrible! In my opinion, the 4000S is a much better tyre, and I even prefer Ultra Gators and 3000s!!!

I reckon this rolling resistance test rings true:

That chart is absolutely useless to me. Does anyone have any practical experience?

Yeah, me. I've been riding and racing for 25 years and have ridden so many tyres I'd have to take a week off work to remember them all. I've ridden the Attack and Force, and they are slow and crap, just as that chart suggests. Save your money

You'll just have to trust me. There's no indication of how the tests were done or what the numbers mean. All you had to say was what was in part two of your next response. Sheesh.

Here's another one, but Attack and Force aren't on it:

That first test is outdated as is your advice. Attack/Force was updated with Black Chili in 2007. The only difference between Attack/Force and GP4000S now are F/R size specific tires and a slightly different tread pattern which makes no functional difference.

Hmm, you're probably right. There's a good chance the ones I had were pre 2007. The new ones might be worth a look

Hey, I take it all back -- well, most of it. Yep, that first test is old, but the second is still good, and had some new editions this year.
I didn't know (or at least I forgot) the Attack and Force were modiffied to eradicate their crapness. I might check out the new ones meself

Bingo. Front is 22mm, rear is 24mm with a little better flat/wear resistance, other than that, they are materially the same.

How is the second test 'still good' is if doesn't include the tires in question?

FYI even though they don't have the GP4KS pairs in stock you can add them individually and then apply PBK15 add get the "pair" for about $71 with free shipping to the US. Pretty much the cheapest I could find anywhere else.
