Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thor Hushovd Norwegian jersey

Where could I go about buying the exact replica jersey of the one Hushovd wore with the Norwegian flag the other day?

They are hard to find. It took me a while to find a Tre Kronor jersey from Sweden, but they're out there. Not many big name/good Swedish cyclists.

What are the chances that ANY of us will EVER earn a national champions jersey? He can wear whatever he wants. I doubt anyone is going to mistake him for Thor anytime soon.

OP - Just look on Google. It will be pretty hard to find I would imagine. However, if Thor keeps winning like he is now, they will become more popular and you can snatch one up then.

Give it a month or so and I'll bet you'll see it pop up in the Test Team Shop.

Not trolling. It's just a really cool looking jersey. I'm guessing you just wear solid blacks, whites and blues? I asked a question, and didn't ask for your sarcastic nonsense of a reply. For the record, I'll blow your doors off in a sprint.

Just like the US made bike threads, this one is always a ridiculous hot spot.
When it comes to this, I'm more in the earn it camp especially for World Championship jerseys - except for cases like this. Just a plain Norwegian flag jersey or other country flag jersey is nothing more than perhaps some homeland or heritage pride so go for it. Oh wait, everyone here who displays some pride in wanting a US bike gets absolutely kicked and slammed. Ok, so buy it just don't just don't say you are buying it on bikeforums.

Why such a problem with someone buying a replica jersey of his/her hero or favorite team? That seems to be something limited to cycling and a few other sports (my own sport of rowing being another). Whenever I see someone wearing a rainbow jersey, or maillot jaune, or a pro team kit, I don't think that person is falsely representing his abilities and/or racing pedigree -just stating his alliance to a particular rider/team etc. Just like a guy wearing NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, World Cup, NCAA etc kit.

I have talked to a few very high level pros (including Thor himself) about this and they don't mind at all. They are quite flattered by it. If they are not bothered by it, why are so many of us?

Fairly decent if you work at it and go to Masters Nationals. There are a number of National Champions around here.

He can, but he'll look clueless or foolish. It's a matter of respect that you don't wear a jersey you didn't win. and if the OP hapens to race, there's actually a rule against wearing it.

The fact that it's a Norwegian jersey, and the OP presumably wouldn't be wearing it in Norway, makes it slightly less aggregious, than say wearing a World Championship jersey, but I still wouldn't do it.

There's a difference between wearing a team replica jersey, and wearing a Championship jersey. One just looks stupid (IMHO) the other looks disrespectful, or clueless.

If you wear the Rainbow jersey, what exactly are you showing your allegience to? The World Championship road race?

Obviuosly the OP can wear what he wants, but he should also understand that many people don't believe you should wear championship jersey's that you didn't win.

Then you shouldn't wear a Team Jersey that you are not on.....Or wear a companies Jersey, like VW or BIanchi that you do not own or did not build or design. I think you think too much about this. BTW......Nice matching orange jerseys and helmets......undies too?

Correct. The team jersey I wear is the team that pays my expenses, and the sponsors pay us to be on the jersey.

So I guess you either have 6 or 7 of the same jerseys, a high water bill from washing every day, or you smell.......
Or you ride once a week.....

Actually, I'm up to 7 team jerseys for my current team. When you get 2-3 each year (and you get new ones each year with changing sponsors) they start accumulating.

I think the people that look like clowns are the ones in their blacks whining about what other people are wearing.

What is this, high school? If he wants to show a little pride for Hushovd and Norway, let him. I personally think it's cool, shows that he knows his cycling a little better than the average fred in a Radioshack jersey. And if I were Hushovd and I saw people biking along in my jersey, I'd think it would be really cool that people out there respect me like that.

As for where to find said jersey, good question! Google is your friend, I guess.

I really don't care what other people choose to wear. My point is why I would not wear it, and the reason why it is considered inappropriateby many in the cycling community.

And to many wearing a Championship jersey doesn't convey that the wearer knows more about cylcling, rather it conveys that may know less, i.e. that the don't know the jersey is in fact a national championship jersey, that you have to win it, and the tradition is that you don't wear a championship jersey you didn't win.

There is a whole set of rules for this. Hushovd as the current Norwegian national road race champion, can only wear that jersey in a Road race. He can't wear it in a time trial, or other discipline. Same deal as Hincapie in the US National championship jersey.

If you look at Cadel Evans he gets to wear the Rainbow jersey because he's the reigning World Road Race champion.

But you only get to wear it the year you won it. If you look at Armstrong's jersey, he has the rainbow stripes on his jersey sleeve. As a former World Champion he gets to have those on his gloves, a jersey sleeve, or shoes, but can't wear the jersey.

I've talked to a number of people on group rides over the years wearing replica Rainbow jerseys, and they almost always say they liked the colors and didn't even know it was the World Championship jersey.

I actually had a friend who had to race in a T Shirt when he was told by the Official to remove his rainbow jersey, which he had no idea about.

So wearing it usually conveys a lack of knowledge, of what the jersey stands for, and the protocol surrounding it.

Wearing a Norweigian national championship jersey is probably not as big of deal, given that most people will jsut think its a Norweigian flag.

But if you simply like the look of the jersey, why not get a Norweigian flag jersey, rather than the a replica of the national champioship jersey?

I just wear Primal Wear jerseys to make a joke of it all. I especially like the TUXEDO jersey - always a good laugh. Life is too short to take yourself this seriously...
