Pulling the Trigger on Generic Carbon Frame
I'm a new poster to the forum. I found the site while doing research on the generic carbon frames available on ebay. I want to pull the trigger on a frame I found that should fit me and I'm having last second jitters and was hoping I could get some advice from the forum.
Does anyone here have experience with this seller ("brandzerobikes")? Are there any red flags that I'm missing? Thanks for your help! (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BRAND-ZERO-S...item35aa2cc155) |
For 375 bucks and new I would not even complain if something happens after 2 years. What i didnt see is if they include the fork. The frame looks nice anyways :)

The frame also looks great. Another BF poster, Ptle (sp?), has a generic eBay frame which he loves. |
Or spend $499 ish and get a planet x frame?... be my choice if cheap and carbon came out of my mouth...
|
It does not come with a fork, although I think I prefer it that way. For whatever reason, I think I'd feel better going with a name brand for the fork and I haven't seen any seatposts from the generic makers that I care for.

+1 in the planet x.
|
If you have near 700 bucks for a frame i would look at the bmc road racer. U cant go wrong with that one at all. CC has a sale for those frames.
|
I wouldn't get a frame from unknown manufacturer. Even if they have a good design, you don't know what kind of quality control they have. If I wanted a cheapo carbon frame, I would buy a Pedal Force or Performance Scat.
|
Pedal force rocks!!

Go for it. And show us the final build or the progress if you are so inclined!
|
I think this is the same frame that ptle built up. Seems to very happy with it.
EDIT: Blackdays beat me to it. Search for ptle posts with carbon frame and attachment. |
Spending $375 is hardly pulling a trigger. It's more like shooting a spitwad. Just buy the thing. GL

I dont know about the OP, but some of us are in college and $375 is "pulling the trigger".
Im in college and had to save for awhile before having the money to buy my gfs bike, even though my dad makes millions.....I just dont want to be one of those daddy kids. |

I've got one. It's nice. Pedal Force and Planet X are two other companies that make "cheap" carbon frames. Not as cheap as the ones on eBay though.
|
Someone should start a "Show me your budget carbon bike build" thread. So we all get to see what is possible for someone with a humble budget.

I would also consider that. It's a special price at the moment, and it really is a great frame. |
The pedal force with the right paint job can rock big time!!!
Just noticed.. 1.1.8 and 1.5 headset, bb30 also? THat frame doesnt look that bad after all. Hmm... paint job... hmm.... |
If you want one more option Bikesdirect sells the Immortal Spirit frameset for $495.
|
Thats too much for that frame. Here is the same frame from another seller.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-Carbon-Road...QQcmdZViewItem I just built up that frame in a 58 cm. So far I its been great. Frame weighed 1200 grams and fork was 380 uncut. There are several local cat1/2 guys around here riding them. |
If you are going to brake a frame in a race is better be a cheapo one, specially if the money is coming from yourself. I'm really thinking in the pedal force thing :)
How does it climb? |
From what I've heard, it's a great frame.
Build it up with a decent components, and good wheels and you should have a great a race bike. |
