Question about wheels
 

I bought my first bike in December and have put about 600 miles on it so far. It's a Scattante r330. I'm broke and in college so I don't have much to spend, but I really want a new wheelset. The bike has Alex R500's on them now, and I found this on craigslist (http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/bik/1827143099.html).

Total weight of these is 1850. The Alex wheels are 2055. Will this have any noticeable difference / will this be a worthy upgrade for the price?

Save your money. You really aren't riding enough for that to make a significant difference, other than maybe cosmetically.

you're in college, save your money for beer and fun. when i was in college getting by on minimal $$, i didnt buy anything new unless i absolutely had to.

ride your wheels until they are no longer serviceable, the ones you linked wont do anything for your riding, other than look nice, trust me.

I'm riding every day and have three 50 mile rides lined up in the next few weeks. I plan on riding this bike into the ground until I can afford my carbon Orbea. My goal is to make this bike ride as nice as possible without spending more than the bikes worth. I feel like the Alex R500 spokes would be better served as rubber bands than spokes; they seem to go out of true after every ride. I ride in and around Atlanta, and the roads here can be rough on wheels so I getting rid of the wheels I have now is a must. Just wanted some opinions on whether the wheels I listed would be a decent switch or not.

Wheels going out of true constantly are most likely a problem with the tensioning of the spokes. The Vueltas may or may not end up having the same problem as they are also an inexpensive machine-built wheelset.

You'd probably be better served having your current wheels completely retensioned by a competent wheelbuilder.

then your want/need to upgrade is understandable, wheels that constantly come untrue are a real hassle.
