Upcoming changes to Campy groups...

Crap! Didn't take 'em long to make my new Chorus-11 groups obsolete. They ought to offer a trade-in program for those of us that bought in the first year.

Thanks. Doesn't look like a big change.

I spoke Campy USA about a week ago and they said that they only changes were the new graphics. Either they are told to lie or they really don't know. I plan on replacing my 2006 Campy triple with a compact but I may wait to 2012 to see wha they introduce an electric groupo. However, even if they did, it would probably cost $4,000 which is more than I am willing to pay.

I thought you could already shift 5 gears down and 3 up. I can do it with my Veloce 10-speed group, so it would seem silly that the higher-end stuff couldn't already.

Yes, you can already. I think they're saying you can shift faster somehow ... maybe the lever throw is a bit less.

Those changes don't look very significant. So maybe current 11 speed will drop in price and be a bargain.

my "custom" 10spd record levers shift all the way down the cassette in one shift and four back up...

Yep. Happy enough with my 10-speed Record. Thinking I need to stock up on parts.

White hoods ... what are they thinking?

Jay-W 07-12-10 09:33 PM

What were the mentioned previous changes to Veloce/Centaur?

dont get me wrong, i have 11spd envy. i almost wish i would have waited and built my vintage ride with athena 11 instead of a mix of silver 10spd stuff.

i think white hoods look great on some bikes

edit:
chains and cassettes for 8spd are still available so you should be fine with 10 (unless you damage it in a wreck) ive got a brand new RD and jsut rebuilt my right shifter so my 10spd will shift crisper than shimano for years

Yeah, I don't think Campy will sell a lot of them.

I don't think you need to do that just yet. There are still 9sp chains and cassettes available. And even 8sp cassettes. The 9sp chain works fine with the 8sp groups I still have on bikes.

I'm still waiting for Campy to make a viable alternative to the 11 speed chain riviting process!

I read that the 11 speed master links are un-reliable, at least at this point.

Hope the components are still interchangeable.

Looks like they have colored hoods. I *hope* that when they say "redesigned shifters" they don't mean they redesigned the mechanism again. Instead they must mean it was redesigned when they first introduced 11 and they're still trying to tell people that.

They're thinking it has worked well for SRAM and they look nice?

AndyK 07-13-10 12:44 PM

I think the red hoods could look awesome with red tape! White, no thanks. I like the improvements and the red "11" logos too.

For one, silver Centaur rear derailleurs have been discontinued, leaving only the carbon-bodied models. Grumble.

Ahhhhh, planned obsolescence! Someday I will own a high-end Campy groupset but the constant "redesign", whether real or just hype, causes a little concern. Does Campy never get it right after so many years? (Yes, I know that they do. The impression lately, though, is of change for change's sake -- or, more likely, for increasing sales to those who MUST have the latest version.)

Is that any different than what any other component or bike manufacturer does most of the time ?
