Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

vittiro rubino pros -- quality?

I haven't found any decent info on quality. I'm using presumably 2010 (I bought a bike June 2010 that came with these on it) tires, Vittiro Rubino Pro. Deflated, but not off (I didn't have time before a ride) I noticed they seem reinforced in the middle area, so they aren't the cheapest, thinnest tires. I'm curious what they're like, though. They're pretty slick but have some 'fine' tred.

Probably don't compare to my Continental Gatorskins that are reinforced up the ass and are incredibly slick.

Good, dependable tires. Decent performance generally.

I just bought a pair, and rode on them for the first time this morning. I liked them, performance wise. But I was just coming off a pair of Armadillos, so just about anything would have felt smoother. I can't attest to their durability, although I've heard good things...

I have rode about 800 miles on mine, and they have been pretty good. I had a couple of flats but it was caused by some real nasty glass and wires. I use to ride the Conti 4000 and these have been better than those puncture wise. I rode the Contis for about 600 miles and then ever 50 miles they kept getting a flat. I know people who have had great experiences with the Contis but they were not for me.

Rubino Pros are good tires!

I have a set of 3's on my Kuota, there is about 1500 miles on them so far. I will replace all my conti's with these as they wear.

I can run higher pressure, they roll better, not sure if they grip better, but they feel a lot better in corners.

vittoria makes great tires across the line in my experience.

for clinchers, the open corsa, at the top of the line right down to the zaffairo (spelling??) at the bottom of the line, they all work pretty well.

They make my nipples firm.

Good all around tire, and they fit rims well, not bears to get on.

rubino pros were all i bought when they were $18-20 on PBK a couple years ago. i switched to michelin lithions last time due to price. rubinos are damn nice tires...then again, the lithions are pretty decent too.

I found Rubino Pro to be pretty good tires and the Lithions aren't bad but not that durable. Neither worked as well for me as the Conti 4000S; Rubino Pros came close but the Conti tires were better on slick surfaces.

I'm on my third or fourth pair of Rubino Pros and Rubino Pro Slicks. I've had good luck with them. The ride and cornering from Continental 4000s is better but they're more expensive and hard to get on my rims.

The slicks get more little cuts but last just as long.

I love Rubino's and have been using them forever. I had one pair sit on a bike in the garage for over seven years. That garage gets pretty hot in the summer. All it needed was a little air and then I proceeded to ride the tread down to the thread.

I still have a few in inventory to use up. Just recently I picked up a pair of GP4000S's from PBK. I couldn't ignore all the BF hype and the price was outstanding. They will have to be magical if they are to garner my business.

I like them, but only got about 1600 miles before threads started showing. No flats though.

The side walls aren't as thick as some others, paper thin really. As long as you don't run over anything that touches the side of the tire you will be fine.

These are the tires I have. I took them and the Vittiros off the rims and checked them out side-by-side. The Vittiros feel like they'd do a very good job but the Gatorskins have, among other qualities, stronger reinforcement and several different plies of material. I think they're very close in quality but I'll stick with my Contis, if for no other reason, that they've got a lot of use so I may as well use 'em down.

I've gone over all sorts of crap including glass shars and zero flats. At least 800 km.
https://www.conti-online.com/generato...orskin_en.html

The Vittiros feel good, but I think I'll keep them as secondary.

I have a couple thousand miles on 2 sets of Rubino Pro's and love them. In fairness, I haven't ridden on any other quality tires because I've had no reason to. Probably only had 3 or 4 flats in all this time on those tires (because i said this, i'll probably flat the next time i ride)

What about the handling did you find problematic?

I'll be finding out in the near future the difference... I have a new bike so I can't compare my experience between two bikes since other factors will come in.

Hit a rock and got a nice cut in my rear. I deflated it and it wasn't through the cords but I have a bunch of used tires in the garage so I put a GP4000S on.

The rubino pros are fantastic tires. I've probably put over 2k miles on em and not a single flat.
