Meaning to their names?

Just wondering are there any meanings behind such names as Sora, Tiagra, ok 105 is an odd one, Ultegra and Dura Ace? The latter reminds me of certains birth control rubber for some reason.
Same with Campy stuff. Initially I thought Campy is going with some sort of musical naming scheme with record, chorus... but I guess not.

Most Campy names are pretty functional Gran Sport, Record, Neuvo (New) Record, Super Record, Victory, Triomphe.

Some are historical. Valentino was Tullio's son. Croce de Aune was the pass where Tullio's wheel froze, inspiring the QR lever and the derailleur.

Chorus, Daytona, I think they picked because they liked the sound of it.

I think it is totally random or whatever sounds cool. Anybody ask Shimano, Trek, Specialized, SRAM, etc.?

I think 105 is a number.

I guess I could try to post something of value.

Sora means sky in Japanese. Well, according to the internets is is anyway.

Sram is an acronym of the founders' names.

If I had to guess, I would say Dura Ace is playing on the word Durable/Durability, and Ultegra is playing on the words Ultimate and Integrity (structural, not the personality trait).

IIRC the same names for Shimano equipment are used across their fishing line as well. 600 was "Ultegra" before it was "Ultegra. FWIW.

Ultegra in Spanish means "shifter lever"

Dura Ace in Spanish means "Nice shift lever":innocent:

Tiagra = Viagra = Erection.

Does it make your frame stiffer?

Of course Sheldon covers this.

For instance, Ultegra = Ultimate Inegrity.
