Space between headset and head tube?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Space between headset and head tube?

Hello, I took my 08 Cannondale Synapse to the LBS today to have a new fork installed. The Cannondale had the large 20mm solid spacer with the 25mm cone shaped on top. With the new fork I didn't wont to use the large 20mm spacer so my bars wouldbe lower. The new fork was an 09 Synapse fork and it came with carbon spacers and after assembly I now have a gap between the spacer and frame. The cane creek cone spacer has a rubber seal be it doesn't seem to fill the gap. There is no slack or play in the headset; it feel very tight and smooth. Is this space normal? The space is noticeable but main concern is about dirt and water getting in. The LBS thought everything was fine but it doesn't look right. Any suggestion? I'm using the headset that came with the bike.
Thanks

I am no expert but I don't like the way it looks....

If all else fails, take an old tube, cut a 1 inch section, remove your stem, and slide the tube section over the gap. It will not be pretty but will be a good seal. Old timers' trick.

My stock 2010 Synapse doesn't have any space between the top tube and the spacers...FWIW.

I needed to replace the compression ring to the OEM (non-Cane Creek manufactured) Cane Creek marked HS, with a true Cane Creek compression ring to eliminate a similar vertical gap when using a true Cane Creek cone spacer. The Cane Creek manufactured cone spacer I have, was also of a slightly smaller diameter.

Hi, Does anyone know of a good headset that I could use to correct this problem? Or if there is something I can do to use what I have?
Thanks Everyone for all your help
