Does my new bike have a carbon fork?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, I think it's an aluminum fork with a misplaced sticker. The constructive replies were appreciated.

I have never determined 100%, but I'm pretty certain that it is carbon. When I tap it, it doesn't sound anything like aluminum. It is really quite confusing. I just need the paint to get a nick so I can see what's below.

I know this is a very old thread, but I may have had the exact same thing happen. I just bought a used Trek Lexa. The person selling it advertised it as the S model. I did a lot of research on the S model and was satisfied with my decision to buy it as my first road bike. However, after coming home and looking up more details about my bike's specific color, I realized I may have been sold the very base model of the Lexa. Trek didn't make my color bike as a Lexa S and the Shimano components have no label as to what model they even are, which tells me they're bottom of the line.

Anyway, the fork also has a warning sticker about carbon forks like the OP. The base Lexa isn't supposed to have a carbon fork. The fork has a deeper ting to it than the rest of the body. I'm pretty confused as well.

Seriously, just leave it out in the sun for a few hours. If it asplodes it used to be a carbon fork.

Carbon sounds like plastic if you flick it with your fingernail. And who cares anyway, you can always INSTALL a carbon fork if it bothers you that much.

Just ride the dang thing.

The specs I found for the 1.1 say "Trek carbon road":

1.1 - Trek Bicycle

At this price point that means alloy dropouts and steerer tube.

The Trek site does state that it's carbon.

From: 1.1 - Trek Bicycle Go to the details tab.

Fork - Trek carbon road

Why did it take 31 responses before somebody actually looked this information up for confirmation?

I can't imagine a new road bike with AL forks. Even my old 2010 Fuji Newest that cost $300 new at Performance Bike had CF forks. I don't think I've seen any new bikes that didn't have CF.

It didn't. The OP looked it up himself and even included the link in post #1 . Anyway, the link to the web page for the 2014 Trek 1.1 is irrelevant since it's a few years newer than the OP's bike.

1.1 - Trek Bicycle

It says under the "Details" tab that the fork is "Trek carbon road".

Right, but that's a 2014 Trek 1.1. This thread is almost four years old.
