Cannondale "oversold" 2010 frameset supply
 

Well, now that I won a SuperSix frameset on Ebay I can spread the news. I ordered a 2010 SuperSix frameset back in April from my LBS. I found out Friday that the order will not be fulfilled and I'd get a refund of the deposit. The reason straight from Cannondale was they oversold their 2010 framesets. Likely in favor of selling complete bikes which is probably a good move for them from a cash point of view.

The good news is, I think, is you can get a complete bike with the normal wait time (2 months?). Otherwise Ebay is your best bet to get a frameset in any reasonable timeframe. They couldn't even give me an ETA on a 2011.

My LBS was pretty po'd because their stock is nearly gone and now they can't get new bikes for months and he's got to give me my $3K back. Black Mtn bikes in San Diego dropped C'dale a couple years ago for this same reason, difficulty getting stock. "Getting Specialized bikes, not a problem, can get one in two weeks" is what the owner told me. Makes sense when he put it that way.

I like Cannondale and will continue to buy their bikes but they've turned me off to waiting for a new one. My 2009 Synapse C3 may be my last new bike I buy from them. Too bad but that's business. I can't have my money tied up for 4 months with nothing to show for it. I wish them luck.

Will Cannondale warranty a frame if purchased off of ebay? Last I heard they only warrantied frames that were purchased from an authorized dealer.

No. According to Cannondale's warranty they only warranty complete bikes to the original owner and must be brought into a dealer on the same continent on which the bike was purchased. So basically, even a frame purchased from a dealer doesn't have a warranty.

wow - that's pretty crazy actually. I'm too much of an instant gratification ***** to wait anything near 2 months for a new bike once i decide to buy it.

Only time I have waited that long was when I ordered my IF. It was definitely worth the wait. I can't believe I sold that bike, I want it back. :( With that said I would never wait two months for a mass produced bike.

i wont wait for longer than 30 days.

I guess it just depends on how bad you want it and if you've got something to ride in the meantime.

Lots of bike companies exceeded their 2010 expectations. Felt for instance is already selling "2011" Z and B series bikes. Their 2011 F series will be released in the next month.

Cannondale warranted both of my Six13's and they were bought as a frame-set, not a complete bike from an authorized LBS.

I am now on a 2010 SuperSix (love the kick it has for a carbon frame) that I bought as a trade-up from my Six13. My LBS ordered it in Dec '09, received it first week of Jan (or soon after). Cannondale has always done well by me. I think it is horrible that they are not letting more of these frames out there. Love it to death!

This doesn't seem to surprise me. When I ordered my CAAD9 in late 2008 for the 2009 model, It took over 3 months for it to arrive. This was at the beginning of the model year so they should have had plenty of stock. Unfortunately, it was a sponsorship deal with payment in full up front so there wasn't much I could do but wait. Won't do that again.

They always seem to have weird supply issues. I'm assuming you ordered the Hi-Mod SuperSix? My understanding is that they're scrapping the Six, and that the SuperSix with 105 will be a bit over $2k for 2011, that's the rumor i've heard. Definitely not the Hi-Mod frame of course, and who knows, it may even be a heavier version to get it in at the right pricepoint.

Gee, I didn't have a problem getting a Caad 9 frame a month ago, and my LBS doesn't seem to have any problem getting new bikes in stock.

find a new shop. Both of my 2010 Cannondales were delivered and in my hands less than a week from the time I ordered through a local shop.

It may be the case that the OP was looking for a specific bike, in a specific size, and possibly a specific color, and no more will be produced for the '10 model year.

Many of the manufacturers went through the same thing this year. They anticipated the sales to be sluggish based on last year's performance, when no one was buying bikes, and did not expect the rebound in sales this year; as a result of cutting back on manufacturing they can't fulfill demand. I know my LBS can't order any carbon bike, frame or complete, in a size 58 from Cannondale as they have told them they are all out. When I bought my bike last year as a closeout they knocked 1000.00 dollars off MSRP, this year there will be no such incentives. As far as Cannondale being the only one not being able to fulfill demand, I just had a ***** of a time trying to get a new Specialized Toupe due to the same thing.

I got the word right from Cannondale. Just a reminder, they're only talking framesets. Complete bikes are still available, they say. Based on what Miami Dave posted maybe you got a different size than 58cm?

For the other poster, I was getting a 58cm team frameset so yeah, it was specific. When I asked if they had any color available is when they said they oversold. Cheers

My LBS says they can get any Giant bike within 5 days of original order. It's hard enough to stay in business when you have a full inventory of a hundred bikes (all styles and sizes), I can't imagine being able to properly take deposits on new stuff only to find out you can not fullfill the order due to your supplier/manufacturer. That is reason enough to switch Brands.

Business thinking: Bike Manufacturers want you to be an independent dealer but contractually loyal to their brand. This means, you are entirely dependent on that manufacturer or distributor for your inventory, bicycle reputation, and worse yet business reputation. I know the Bike shop I used to work for would never stand for that and would switch brands as soon as possible. (Granted they liked the next best optional brand as much as the original)

I just found out that my C-Dale didn't ship out until yesterday... I ordered it last week.

Giant is different, they actually own their manufacturing facility. Needs more bikes? Just run the production line a bit longer :). I imagine Cannondale, Trek (non OCLV), Specialized et al. have some agreement to purchase x frames from the manufacturer etc. Getting more frames produced on the fly to meet sudden demand might be more tricky for them. For the CAAD9s, i'd assume Cannondale was producing these in-house and could meet demand as well, everything else is done at someone else's factory.

BS They cant carry 'dale because they are a f..... Specialized store and they are not allowed to carry almost anything else.
