Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anybody wear long cycling bibs during summer rides?

I'm new to cycling and need to get a pair of cycling shorts. I'm curious if anybody here wears long bibs during summer and if it's noticeably hotter? I'd prefer to block some sun exposure plus having an extra barrier in case I fall (not ready to shave the legs).

Thanks in advance.

While the Bullfrog will not prevent road rash, shaving your legs will help the crash site heal better.

Those are made for cooler weather so they'll be thicker than summer apparel so I wouldn't recommend it.

What you're probably looking for is a skinsuit. You'll look like a comic book superhero, though....

God no. I'm tempted to rip off my clothing every time I step outside, I can't even imagine wearing pants

Even your emergency pants?

Hell no I would not wear long anything during the summer. Sunblock of sufficient SPF for your ride times and climate protects against burning. No need to roast for no good reason.

and it's easier to apply if you shave. Just go ahead and do it already. If I don't endure mocking as a high school student, most adults should be able to stop themselves commenting.

I didn't think it was a huge deal, in fact I felt fine, but the other riders kept asking me if I was okay lol. The look of horror on their faces made me feel like a freak. But I'm telling you, I didn't overheat or anything, it was no biggie!

Bib knickers. I'm pale, I need all the coverage I can get. Plus I don't much care for shorts in general.

OP, wear what you like and find comfortable.
