Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for New Ultegra or Dura Ace 9 Speed Shifters

Is it still possible to get a hold of new 9 speed Shimano? If so, I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

why do not like the new ultegra? if it is simply because you think one grade up will make it better, i think it is a mistake. the new ultegra is good stuff.

i've seen ultegra 9 speed

I know you can still find new sti-r600 which are pretty much ultegra 9sp that you can shim for smaller hands.

Thank you for the quick reply. I guess it is mostly for the price. The current setup is Dura Ace 9 speed but it is about 10 years old and it's getting pretty wonky. I keep things for a real long time so I don't want to buy used if I can help it. So mostly it's just a matter of comparing new 9 speed ultegra to new 10 speed ultegra to keep it apples to apples ( or new 9 speed DA to new 10 speed da).

I have been having a hard time finding new 9 speed, but if I'm doing the conversion correctly the link you sent would be about $400 which doesn't seem much of a savings over new 10 speed ultegra...

10 speed is probably the way to go if you are having to replace because of wear and tear. it's a natural moment to upgrade when the technology has already moved on.

It looks that way. I really thought I could find some 9 speed stuff a lot cheaper (without going used). I'll probably just stick with the 9 speed cassette for now and run it in the alternate position for the 10 speed shifter.

that's a good idea. do the upgrades gradually as and when things wear out.

Hiker,
I just pulled a pair of 9 Speed Dura Ace shifter off a bike that I had in storage. Maybe rode that bike 300 miles. Not a scratch or mark on them, they are essentially new. I was going to post them on Ebay next week. Used they go for good money, but to avoid hassle, let me know if you are interested.
