Help a newbie

Hi, just a couple quick questions for the more experienced bikers out there

My road bike has SRAM 9-speed gripshifters (twist). Do the SRAm road front and rear derailleurs (i.e, SRAM Red, Force, Rival, etc) work with these shifters? Or do I need to stick w/ MTB derailleurs? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer for this.

I have a 9-speed cassette (SRAM 11/28) matched w/a 50/34 170mm crank. Should be using a 9-speed chain w/ this pairing or a 10-speed chain?

Thanks for all your help

You'll probably be able to get a more definitive answer in the Mechanics Forum. Since this forum focuses on road bikes, there will be less experience crossing systems.

no. red, force, rival, and apex are all for ten speed. you might be able to wiggle it, but the shifting won't be precise. sram road & mtb stuff are compatible, and you can use a 9-speed sram mtb derailleur if you desire
