white wraps? how do you keep them clean?
i can't decide what color wraps to get. i like white but they seem to get too dirty too quickly, red is too much red, and black just doesnt go with my bike's color scheme...or at least thats what i think http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...ecialized1.jpg

White would look good. I hear that Fizik bar tape stays clean. I don't usually like to the main color of the bike, because chances are that the bar tape isn't the same shade. I only ever use colored tape (not white or black) to contrast a color on the bike, or to just stand out.
In your case the main color is red and the accents are white. White is white, so you shouldn't have any problems with it matching. |

That looks orange.

Your powers of deduction are awesome. Now, how good is your imagination?
|
I tried white (came with my bike). There is no way to keep it clean. When it was time for new tape, I went with black.
|
I buy cheap orange cleaner clothes from the dollar store and quickly just glide back and forth with both ends while pulling against the tape.... done in a jiffy!
|
That orange bottled hand cleaner at Costco. Follow with a wet sponge.

Mr Clean magic eraser works wonders. Fizik is very easy to clean.

Wut. The poll has nothing to do with the thread title...
To answer the question in the title, Fizik tape stays pretty clean on its own, with an occasional wipedown. |
I wipe my white cork tape down with isopropyl alcohol when it gets dirty.
|
I leave white tape in the original packaging.
|
Take an old toothbrush, dish soap, and hot water. If the grime is really thick swap out the dish soap and hot water for WD-40. I roll white bar tape on my cross bike and after two seasons of racing I can still keep it clean with these treatments. HTH

Degreaser and a rag works great (it is hand/chain oil after all). I imagine water + blue Dawn would work as well (if it can clean oiled pelicans it can clean bar tape).
|
Too much work...just leave them dirty.
|
Awesome Cleaner from the dollar store, its great stuff. Spray it on and a fingernail brush and some water to rinse it off and wa la. Clean like new

I just voted for red by mistake....I meant to click black. I'm an idiot.
And, I'm told that Pledge cleans white tape. If that doesn't work, try Fabuloso. |
the dirty white tape on my bike matches the dirty everything else on my bike.

I have white Fizik, and as has been said, it's easy to keep clean. It also has something of a reputation for being slippery if sweat gets on it, although I've not experienced the problem. I tried white cork and it turned a lovely shade of gray where I gripped it within a month or so. I also have some of that el cheapo, vinyl white tape with foam backing. That stuff is great, stays white, and stays soft. I wish I could find some of it new.
|
I guess this wouldn't be the place to mention that if you DON'T use white tape, you don't have to worry about this issue....
|
Tape is meant to be a little dirty.
|
I use the Fizik white tape, and like others have said, it's easier to keep clean. I usually wipe them down every 4 rides or so. Oh, nice bike. Here is mine with the white tape. : )
