Santa Barbara: a climb from fog to sun, café latte and a look back

I just got back from a few days in Santa Barbara. While the family slept, I spent a few hours climbing the local mountains.

At the foot of the mountain, the fog was thick.

I don’t have an altimeter, but I think the fog broke after a few thousand feet of climbing.

Funny, it seemed much steeper than it looks.

A look back.

Local church on the way back to the hotel.

A triple shot, non fat latte, before the family awakes.

And later that night, a final view from the restaurant.

Looks like Gibraltar. What day was that?

Great pics. I grew up about 3 blocks from the mission. Those roads are very firmiliar.

What restaurant on the wharf were you eating at?

Went up GMR today. Ugly looking back. Cool too, wore an underlayer.

Reinforces my yearning to move to the west coast.

The east coast sucks.

Longboards. But had a more remarkable meal, the night before, at Julienne's.

Gibraltar looks like a wagon trail!

I concur. It was either move to Cali or Oz for our family. Cali is on the verge of bankruptcy and AU is prospering. The people(including me) are miserable on the east coast because of lack of sunlight. They are all mildly depressed.

It's hard to beat the foothills and mtns of Cali for hill climbing.

Beautiful pics. You must have a titanium stomach. I thought only the likes of Cavendish could handle 3 shots of espresso.

Extra miles after worlds? I might be down for joining this week, depending on how tired/lazy I am.

ILUVUK 07-28-10 09:35 AM

Yeah, after worlds. But fair warning, I am supposed do to a 20 min interval @ 300W. I'll come back down and ride the rest of the way with you guys.

I enjoyed the post. I have to do that ride (and I want to ride up North San Marcos Road one day).

Do you mean Old San Marcos or do you mean San Marcos Pass?

I consider that a challenge. I've held 380 for 17 mins before, so I might have a chance when adjusting for weight.

That's about 4.8W/kg

We'll see if I can actually hold that after worlds though :p
