Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stolen Bike: North San Jose, CA near Rock and Oakland Rd

Hey guys, my girlfriend just had her bike stolen today at around 6.45pm today (July 27th) from my friend's house. The House is near Rock and Oakland Rd, San Jose, CA

We believe some people from the trailer park just north of the neighborhood took it as a theft of opportunity (she had not locked it up as they were about to go riding). My friend's neighbors also had some items stolen our of their garage and recovered them in the trailer park, which is why I believe some *******s there patrol the nicer neighborhood looking for things they can steal.

The bike itself is a mint condition 2006 K2 Mod 3.0. It is a very uncommon bike.

If you see it, please run them over (without harming the bike preferably). Otherwise let me know and I'll follow up on any leads and deal with it myself.

If you need to get a hold of me quickly, you can call my cell at 425.405.0678. Chances are if you see a bike of this type it is hers. I do a lot of riding in the area and have never seen this bike model, much less a K2 branded bike.

Thanks guys.

Yes, they live in a trailer park, so naturally they are your first suspects! Way to establish their propensity as criminals because some stolen items were recovered in their neighborhood. Way to encourage others to do them harm because they see a bike looking exactly like what was stolen, of course all this, according to your word. You are an ass yourself!

Thanks, one of my friend's also had their mountain bike stolen right out of their garage about a year and a half ago as well, I guess its not a first. Thats why I carry a small pocket tether lock where ever I go, simple deterrence goes a long way.

the Washington area code isn't indicative of anything. I'm from the Bay area (650) and moved to Connecticut 8 years ago and STILL have my 650 area code number (hey, my cell number is a great number and they wouldn't / couldn't give me the same number in an 860 version).

Although I hate the east coast, it is nice to live in an area where I can leave my front door open 24/7 and not have to worry about theft.

Hope you find the bike.

Keep an eye on Craigslist - lots of used bikes get sold there (particularly in the Bay Area) so it's an easy place for someone to try to sell something like that bike.

>_> I moved here a couple years ago from Seattle.... It's my home town and keeping my phone number is my way of showing Washington pride.

Thanks for the lookout though, I'll be driving around there more often now to keep a look for it.

Will also def keep an eye out on CG considering how uncommon the bike is, def will notice it when it goes up.

If you haven't you may want to file a police report with description, serial number, etc. If you think you know who may have stole it, you may want to do some scouting, and check local pawn shops.

I know! How typical to accuse poor people who have been caught with stolen property before right off the bat! It was probably somebody from Atherton.

She filed a report today. Unfortunately she didn't write down the serial number of her bike which is a huge detriment, but at the very least there are a couple of identifying factors: The FD cable is terminated by sports tape because I accidentally ripped off the crimp while adjusting the tension and have been too lazy to replace it, and there's some scuffing on the backside of the right side fork about half way up from the previous owner. There's also an oversized saddle bag because she wanted room to store lots of stuff. Oh and the pedals are strap, she hadn't graduated to clipless yet.

If worse comes to worst, I'll drop the money on a Specialized Dolce Comp for her since that's the bike she wanted anyway, but I'd much rather not... I am supposed to use that money for a different large purchase... but if it gets her back on the road, it's well worth it.

Haha, dear god. When I showed that to my girlfriend, the first words out of her mouth were "why would someone do that to a bike?!"

You really don't want to go with that different large purchase anyways. You could however, get on one knee when you present her with her new bike. Just make sure you videotape it for us.

So now it's gone from mint condition to a used bike with scrapes and tape? Well there ya go right there, that's easliy a trailer trash target!

I suppose I spoke incorrectly, I was referring to the drive train and components when I said mint condition. The thing had barely 40 miles on it when we picked it up, and by the time it was taken only about 300 miles on it, no crashes or drops. Aside from the tape which I was planning on recrimping later, the others issues were minor blemishes that come with any used bike.

I'm selling off all the parts that I was collecting for a new build to help fund a new bike for her, I still hope we find the original one though.... would rather not drop that money unnecessarily.
