Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone else notice that the geometry looks different? I am looking at the 51cm. I would be happy with this change, as I fall in between sizes with the current 49 or 52cm set ups.

I totally dig the new Allez design. I like the Frameset only option, it seems to be at a reasonable price too. Would it be a harsh ride, though?
I wonder how they'll stack up against the CAAD10 in terms of ride/weight/durability.

Incorrect. Of all of the bikes that stacked yesterday (including my Tarmac), that was the ONLY bike that was damaged. The others were all carbon except for one that was Ti.

There are other reasons to want an aluminum frame besides crash durability. Like price.

Of course. I was only responding to the "if it were carbon" claims...

aluminum fan here, due to price, low weight, and a great ride (if you like to get jiggy).

Is the difference betw 2011 & 2010 Tarmac SL3 just the paint scheme?

God knows the 2010's were pretty ugly...

The fork is supposed to be different, or something. I thought they looked nice though, at least the black ones.

Specialized's site is currently down for "remodeling". I'm guessing we'll see something accurate soon.

I'm with you on this one. The 2010 model color scheme is my favorite. I'm looking for that exact bike in a 56". The matte finish is very cool IMO.

Lol, yeah. There IS one good reason to say that aluminum is better than carbon for racing (for most of us) - when you crash and break it, it's cheaper to replace!

(Course then I start thinking about the cost of bike replacement vs the medical bills if you brake something...)

I saw a "stealth" 2010 roubaix built up. All black, and gray, with almost no shiny metal on the frame, fork, or aero wheels. It was awesome looking. I think about finding a 2010 frame to replicate it, because the logo's were black on the carbon frame, not white like the pic above.

I'm sorry..but that's a FAIL. You're assuming that all of those bikes saw the same "loading". Not likely.

The Ti bike obviously is going to be fairly robust...but any of the carbon bikes that hit the deck were just lucky if they came out unscathed.

Can't really know what the exact loading was, but we were all in pretty brutal situations. Dan's bike was like 50 feet up the road from where I landed. Chris' bike, the one that crumpled, was about halfway in between. From the video it looks like Chris' Allez may have slid into the fence, but Dan's Prince cartwheeled down the road.
