Wheels with carbon fiber spokes

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wheels with carbon fiber spokes

Hey,

I am interested in buying stylish 3, 4, 5-spoke 700c carbon fiber wheels. I made a small research on the web and found out the following options to choose from. If you can add more to the list, please do so.

1. HED, H3 - 3-spoke
2. MATRIX - 3 or 5-spoke
3. Corima - 3 or 4-spoke
4. Aerospoke - 5-spoke
5. ffwdwheels.com, Five-T - 5spoke
6. Mavic iO road - 5-spoke

Cheers.

R-Sys doesn't fit the requirement, its not a 3-4-5 spoke wheel. Not to mention the whole "death ride" aspect of them.

How about the old Spinergy wheels? Or are you looking only at new?

I just bought new wheels last week. They are Topolino ATR 3.0. They have aluminum clincher rims with carbon fiber spokes. These wheels are different from the ones you mentioned in that the carbon fiber spoke stretch from one side of the rim to the other and doesn't stop at the hub. The hub is also carbon fiber and the spokes go threw it. This allow them to make the hub lighter and reduce the wheel weight.

The wheels that I have come in two styles, 20mm rim and 30mm rim. The 20mm weighs 1360 grams and the 30 weighs 1480. I have the 30mm rim.

They are the smoothest riding wheels I have ever experienced. People that test wheels for a living like Testrider.com say that they are smoothing riding wheels on Earth, if that is important to you. I can ride over cobblestone roads and can barely feel them. But, they do have a very responsive lively ride at the same time.

Here are some photos.

Their website is https://www.topolinotech.com/

Yeah, I'll second the person who asked why? I have a set of Hed 3s. They are very fast when you run them with the right tires. However, they are a little flexible in turns, heavy and very stiff from a comfort perspective. All of these attributes are common among composite spoked wheels.

If you want aero wheels for a triathlon or time trial bike; then the Hed 3s are the best choice of those you listed.

If you want aero wheels for a road bike, a set of Zipp 404 Firecrest clinchers are probably a better choice.

If you want to look cool, go for the wheels you think look coolest.

I haven't had any of those issues with Topolino wheels. These are my favorite wheels now. They are responsive, light, handle well, climb well and ride smooth.

Now the down side, if they break they need to go back to the manufacture to be fixed. A local bike shop will not know what to do with them. That said, I am fairly confident that unless I have a crash, I will never break these things. Also, I do not race, I do club rides and training rides. So, these wheels fit for what I need them for.

What are you planning on using these wheels for? You said stylish, which makes me suspicious...

Neither of those are 3,4,5-spoked, unfortunately ... but thanks for suggestion

I am planning on using them on super duper sexy frame, homebuilt, CF, somewhat pearsonbikes.com type or similar

So, definitely not for competition, for looks that it is

Well, I guess I should have been more clear, by composite spoked wheels I meant Hed 3, Corima's 3 and 4 spoke wheels and Aerospoke(not lightweight, Topolino, mavic type construction), where the spokes and rim are one unit and there is 5 or less spokes.

As mentioned in post #3, Spinergy Rev-X wheels. Personally, I think they are unsafe and would not ride them.

So you are only interested in wheels that are currently in production? Spin made a tri-spoke wheel, but I don't think they are in production, either.
