What is this closed thread s**?

umd made a mistake and went down hard. We all make mistakes when we are trying to push it. We go down, we get hurt. We get back up, if we are lucky, and take the lessons home.

Botto has gone down so many times, but he doesn't give up.

All pushing-it-to-their limits athletes go down and get hurt.

It happens. It is unavoidable, if you are pushing yourself to your max capabilities you are going to get hurt.

Velo Vol 08-03-10 03:33 PM

I haven't crashed in years. What are you trying to say?

big john 08-03-10 03:34 PM

Are you asking why the thread was closed?

I showed the video to a non-cycling friend. He blamed the guy in green.

Velo Vol 08-03-10 03:45 PM

I bet we can get this one closed too.

well that settles it then!

Velo Vol, you haven't been pushing it to the max. I haven't crashed in 6 years. But umd did, because he was pushing it to the max. F**k he doesn't like me, I don't like him, but I know he is trying hard, if we were the same age, I'd love racing him. I don't think he would beat me, if I were 30 years younger, like climbing, it would be "See ya." but he's into pushing it to his max, and I think that is cool. He crashed, that happens in a tight pack.

Mr. Baenz, he's hot for his age. He's faster than I, too.

umd 08-03-10 03:53 PM

Since this was brought back up, here are some facebook posts about it,

From Jeff, the guy that I made initial contact with: "I still don't blame anyone. crashes happen..."

From Dan, the guy who went down hard and went to the hospital: "Many thanks for posting the video. Looked at it frame by frame and confirms what I remember. Important considering I don't remember anything post-crash. I'm dumbfounded by the comments posted. Don't pay the antagonist haters any mind. The cause was and is pretty obvious. Hope you are feeling okay..."

I don't not like you, you just never make any sense.

coasting 08-03-10 03:56 PM

how about a head to head race between beanz and umd? that would bury the hatchet, i'm sure. you might like each other.

you can both video it and we can have the views from leader and chaser.

Velo Vol 08-03-10 03:56 PM

I do push pretty hard at times. But if your definition of " to the max" includes going to the point of losing control, then I don't go there.

Also, a vast majority of my riding is solo, which is far less crash-prone than in a fast group.

Lolfry.

between beanz and eclectus there have been some epic posts over the past couple of days.

Velo Gator 08-03-10 03:59 PM

This makes me feel less bad about starting a thread asking for bottle holder help.

AMFJ 08-03-10 04:00 PM

That video showed how fast things happen.

It is real easy to pick out things to do differently when you look at it ten times. Hell the first time I saw it, I knew he was going to crash from the thread, but when the guy "appeared" I thought he made it around him---then there was sky, road, sky, cliff bar.

I really wish the discussion about base layers---especially in places with high humidity would have developed more. Very interested in that.

I figure it will be closed by the thread title alone, but whatever it takes!

The discussions about base layers and humidity has been beaten to death. When people (like me or botto) bring up the effectiveness of base layers as crash protection, we get dismissed. "How can a tiny piece of fabric help in a crash". Well the point of my thread was just to show that it can and does lessen the road rash from a crash considerably. Of course I would rather not crash, but given that a crash may happen, we don various safety gear such as helmets, potentially shave our legs, some people worry about whether their glasses are outside of their helmet straps, etc. And in cars we wear seatbelts, motorcycle riders wear leathers, etc. We all hope and try to not crash, but we do what we can to mitigate the after-effetcs.

"Botto has gone down so many times, but he doesn't give up."

I hear he's crashed his bike a couple of times, too!
