When you know you cant ride?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When you know you cant ride?

It kills me when I know I am not going to get to ride because the itch to go increases by ten. Ate poorly this morning and the car reads 106 F

I was just checking internet weather. It's 103 here, and I'll go ride anyway. And go watch 'em race a bit, too.

How does that stop you from riding?

There is an air quality advisory outside due to smoke from forest fires 700kms away. I did 76kms last night and might do a metric tonight.

If anything, eating poorly this morning should get your butt on the bike.

The heat has never caused me to not want to ride. Riding in 100 degree + weather only feels hot when you STOP. When it gets below 32F then I start to have reservations. Even then, there is a guy I see commuting in my area while it is blowing snow and like 10 degrees and I feel like a lazy A$%.

Oh the heat never stops me but when I eat poorly (I am a very healthy eater 98% of the time) I just have absolutely no energy from empty calories so I just get burnt out very very quickly.

I can eat crap like McDonalds and ride all day on it. I of course prefer to eat better, but like someone else stated eating poorly should serve as extra motivation to get out and ride.

Soooooo, decided to say **ck it ill go ride. Went out and did a pretty short ride and as I was coming home I was moving pretty fast (for me anyway) down a main street, made the turn onto my street and WOOSH! nice dusty gravel pile greeted me and away i went. This was my first pretty bad crash which was a bit of a rush in a way. Rear derailleur is f'ed as well as the front shifter

Woo Hoo

Easy for you to say when it's less than 80F and 54% humidity in Vancouver.

No, it feels really hot when you max out your heart rate too quickly in interval training and have to limp home at half power feeling all unsatisfied.

Not that this ever happens to me, mind you.

Today was my recovery ride day and I decided to do some intervals. Dumb idea. 107 today and monsoon season. Went the rest of the way home recovering.

No it's not. Did you miss the part about the massive amount of particulate in the air from wildfires?

I lived in the Caribbean when it was 120f with the humidex every freakin' day. Exercise is not impossible in that heat.

We can revisit this in a few months when it's 2c and pissing rain here or sunny and -5. We'll see who "can't ride"

Meh... I've ridden in Vancouver a fair amount and it isn't that bad. However, in winter with the rain and cool temps.. bleh.

Sigh.

I'm obviously not getting my point across. I'm not talking about the motherfornicating temperature.

https://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-col...r-quality.html

This (above) doesn't stop me from riding. Neither does the heat when Vancouver gets into the 90s and 100s. Last year was brutal. This year has not been as hot.

In other words if it's under 120f, htfu.

I think the particulate in the air is still less than 'normal' Los Angeles air. I've ridden the last couple of days, and other than not being able to see the mountains, haven't noticed anything.

So this is a thing you're doing deliberately, then? No sympathy from me.
I'm not saying I don't do the same thing. I'm just saying: You do it, it's on you, no sympathy. And the empty calorie thing is probably in your head. One dietary transgression isn't going to turn you into a lump.

I have exercise induced asthma. Air quality is a consideration for me.
Anyhow, I have ridden at 120F in my hometown.

Bah, the only thing that should slow anyone down is freezing rain... and even then that's what studded tires are for I've done a few mountain rides in 100+ this year and as mentioned, as long as you keep pushing it's not that bad, the wind cools you down.

Rear derailleur or just the hanger? I hope it's the hanger.

I just got back from this. Port Moody here, the downhills are amazingly fun. Sadly it'll be my last ride of the summer in my beautiful neighborhood, school is starting up again.
