I used to use contacts but the wind when I was screaming downhill bothered my eyes. Now I use the insert and it works fine but is a bit too heavy on my face\nose. I use the glass inserts, not the plastic ones.

Have you actually tried them? It's worth making a real effort to overcome the initial 'yuk' factor with contacts. There's no doubt they give the best vision (unless you have astigmatism). I don't use them personally, but that's just my sensitive dry eyes. If I could tolerate them I would use them in an instant.
No, that's not a problem.
Inserts can be perfectly fine for cycling. We are not talking about huge differences here. Sure, prescription lenses are a little better, but you pay big dollars for every pair. With inserts and changeable lens systems, you pay once for the inserts and then use regular interchangeable coloured lenses. That works well for me because my morning commute is in the dark and my evening commute and training rides are not. Your situation may be different.

I worn Smith's with inserts, Tifosi RX, and Oakley's with contacts. Contacts are the way to go!

I've never worn contacts, but that option is nice because you can wear and take off any kind of sunglasses as needed.
I have the Bolle Parole with the insert and had them for 7 years before I bothered to get the Rx put into the insert -- too busy and I can see okay without the Rx, just not great. This is a fairly inexpensive option as you can get the Bolle Parole or Vigilante on sale online maybe $50-$100 plus $15-20 for the insert then get the Rx into the insert for maybe $50? I want to get a pair of Rx lensed Rudy Projects as they are lighter, but the Bolle Rx are working just fine and I'm still too busy to bother... Caveat: some people may find the sunglasses w/Rx insert are too heavy and slip down.

I have the Adidas sunglasses with inserts (prescription is -5 in R eye, -3.75 in L.) I have a fair bit of astigmatism. The inserts were borderline the first couple of times I wore them - felt like I was drunk, had headaches. Now I'm used to them but peripheral vision is sketchy - you can really only focus straight ahead. These were the only pair of wraparound sunglasses I could find that would work with my prescription. They're pretty heavy, and I can't wear them for running since they slide down my (small) nose. Also they get gunked up pretty quick from my eyelashes.
I like not having to fiddle with contacts, but I think next time I might just bite the bullet and get some, because swapping out glasses indoor/outdoor is a pain. (Although contact lens solution etc. is also a pain.) Astigmatism with contacts is fine, as long as you're getting the weighted ones.

I got a trial pair of contacts today. Now to order some Rudy Projects with interchangeable lenses. Not sure if the contacts will suit me, so the sunglasses will have the option of the insert.
