Trainer Tire
Bought a KK trainer yesterday. Both the wife and I would like to use it.
Should we each get a different wheel as a 'trainer wheel', or would it be possible for us to share a wheel. We both have 700, but her's is a 25 and mine is a 23. I'm not sure the case, but in the event that she has a 12-25 rear and I have a 12-27 cassette, will it make enough difference that we would need two different setups? We're not competitive in our riding, but we simply are trying to attain a certain physical level. Also, how much should be spent on a 'trainer wheel'? Thanks for any help. |
I would just buy a cheap wheel and a cheap cassette and share it. As long as you both have 9 speed or both have 10 speed the teeth on the cassettes don't matter unless you get above a 27. I would also go with a Continental trainer tire, they are cheap and quiet on the trainer.

Thanks, any recommendations on a wheel? I'm totally lost on how to purchase one; I'd probably overspend when it sounds like I don't need to.

Just give your local bike shop a call, tell them that you want a price on a cheap wheel that you are going to be using on the trainer. Just tell them what speed cassette you have and if it is shimano or campy. They should have something laying around for $50 - $75 give or take.
