2nd Bottle Cage, or Pump?
Hey all...
My bike currently has just one bottle cage mounted which works great. I have space for another, and already have a bottle for it however I'm wondering if it would be better used for a portable pump?
I'm new to road cycling and currently I'm doing about 50-75 miles a week. The one bottle has suited me fine for these rides, and while I'd love to mount up a 2nd (I'm starting longer rides soon)... is that the best course of action? I have a spare tube, tools and a patch kit in my seat bag but currently have no means of pumping if I needed to. I see lots of you here with 2 bottle cages.. can someone explain the breakdown for me?
Do most people have 2 bottle cages because they're doing 50+ mile rides? If so, what do you do if you get a flat? Where would your pump be? Is a pump so rarely used that its not justified? Do you ride with someone who carries a pump so you don't?
I suppose I'm just missing the connection here and am torn on how others are doing it. Thoughts?

You don't have to chose between. Either get a frame pump, or a pump with a bracket that mounts between the bottle cage and the frame

You should be able to put both a pump and a bottle cage there.
Yes, 2 bottles. I don't carry 2 unless it's either really hot, or I'll be out for more than 3 hours without a place to refill.

In Florida I need two water bottles. I keep a CO2 pump in my under-saddle bag. Can you put the bottle mount and then put the pump in an empty bottle if you're going on a short ride?

Your pump mount goes under your bottle cage holder.

I use two bottles because in the summer it gets hot. Plus, one's usually filled with water while the other has some kind of mixed drink in it.
On my commuter, I've got two bottle cages. However, one is used to hold my Air Zounds horn. The other is for a water bottle/thermos. My pump is hanging from the top tube. I ziptied the mount to it.

On two of my bikes the frame pump goes underneath the top tube and on the third it fits alongside one of the seatstays. In all cases this leaves space for either two or three bottle cages. And, as mentioned above, you can get pumps that fit alongside a bottle cage or minipumps that go in a jersey pocket or in a bag that's on the bike.

hey 10 wheels
are you able to place your pump in various places on your frame because they came with clever brackets or are you being creative in attachment ideas?

+1...
I did the same and it works great. The only thing you may need to do is get longer hex bolts. I'd recommend a pump over a CO2 cartridge.
Question: what happens if your incorrect insert your CO2 pump into the value stem and the CO2 goes into the atmosphere rather than your tire... Don't have this problem with a pump.

Solution is easy - see attachments below:
(Note: pump beats CO2 - never runs out of air!)
