Anyone with experience with GORE RIDE ON cable systems?
 

I am currently riding a Kestrel rt 800 with DA 7900 components and thinking about going with GORE RIDE ON system. Anyone currently using it and if so any opinions?

Go to Di2....no cables required for shifting! If not, I suggest you stick with Shimano cables as the routing has caused some adjustment problems from what I've read.....just my opinion.

I had GORE cables on my SL2 (w/ SRAM Red), and the gore coating peeled off, was messy looking, and eventually lead to shifting problems.

I'd go with OEM Shimano or SRAM (inner) cables.

I love the Gore cables. Much better shifting performance with my SRAM Red (lighter touch). Wouldn't go back to standard cables again.

OP, are you open to any other cabling system? You should give Yokozuna a try.

I tried Gore Ride-on cables (brake and shifter) on two mountain bikes, and I wasn't impressed with the shifting. I don't think the Gore design results in better, more consistent shifting.

I have on my MTB and on my old 8 speed Campy chorus. I don't think it's any better but I haven't change them for years. Jagwire is fine IMO. I just replace mine every year. I lube the housing with the purple Bike medicine stuff. or AT fluid.

For SRAM don't use the Shimano shift cables, use the Campy speced cables, much thinner.

Yeah, Thats about when my bikes cables started to perform poorly.

Gore on my race bike,about 800-1k on mine. Initially they were better but now are no better nor worse than the campy cables on the Sunday bike

I heard this as well, but I also heard that Yokozuna builds theirs to a different spec. I can't verify that, though. But coming from Jagwire and Shimano cabling, I thought the Yokozunas are worth the upgrade specially when I went to Rival with the hidden cabling. Never tried Gore Ride Ons so I can't speak about that.

Sure, I would be willing to try Yokosuna. The reason I brought up the GORE system was that my LBS suggested them. They tend not to be pushy so I assumed that the suggestion was worth considering. I'll do some investigating and consider the Yokosuna.

I'll throw in another big vote for Yokozuna. I had factory Ultegra and Jagwire cables at one point before settling on the Yokozuna cable set so solve my poor shifting feel. They are simply amazing and there was so much less drag and a far better shifter feel than any of the others with my 6700 stuff. treefortbikes.com has them for just over $40 including brake and derailleur cables.

Two things: they're heavy, and if you have Shimano ferrule-less brakes (the ones that you just slip the cable into the caliper) they do not fit by default. I had to file down the Yokozuna cable ferules to make them fit inside.

I will not go with anything else anymore. I'm currently waiting for the derailleur cable set along with my Red shifters actually.
