Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Flat Status

How frequently do you get flats? What was the last flat you got? and what was the worst flat you have ever had?

I rode three weeks with no problems then the past three days in a row I have gotten flats. I even went out and bought some tube liners and still got a flat that day. I hate this week. Just let me ride cycling gods!!!

What kind of flats are you getting? Snake bites or punctures?

Sometimes I go several weeks without getting flats. It gets worse later in the summer when it's been a long time since rain washed the roads clean. After I got a new rim I was getting flats frequently but after carefully installing some good rim tape that solved the problem. I'd say about 1/3rd of my flats were preventable with better rim tape or paying more attention when inspecting tires and removing sharp things.

Once every 1000 miles... before I use to get them often, but I switched wheels and no rarely get them, now they only occur if I forget to inflate tires or run of crap load of garbage. Switching tires can also help.

None for going on 1500km's now, and I'm running michelin pro3 race tires. So pissed too, because I just bought Co2.

if you're getting flats regularly make sure you are checking your tire/rim for anything that might be causing the flats repeatedly.. could be something as small as a tiny thorn that is stuck in your tire that keeps causing flats every time you ride.

I'm not sure if I've had one flat that was worse than any other. But I've only had one this season so far, and ever since I put "Survivors" on my bike. Survivors have 18% more tread than other tires and can withstand a bit more abuse. Haven't had a flat yet.
