The new Shimano 105

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The new Shimano 105

How's the new 105 internal cable routing working?

If a guy wanted to upgrade exisiting 105 to get the internal routing, what would he need to purchase?

Any other thoughts on the new shifters?

all you would need would be the shifters and likely new shift cables.

i havent ridden the new 105, but i'm sure it works very well. everyone seems to really like the new ultegra, and i'll assume it works as well with a weight penalty.

New brifters are all you should need for the "internal" mounting (under the bar tape). Old derailleurs should work. Someone wanna confirm?

I saw it on a Caad 9 in the shop a couple weeks ago. It had me confused for a minute because it looked just like Dura Ace but the bike wasn't spec'd like a Caad 9-1. I found out later Cannondale has started putting 5700 on 2010 bikes.

That said, given the similar looking design, I assume the functionality is going to be similar as well.

I wish there was another reason to upgrade from perfectly good 105's to the 5700's besides simple vanity.

Damn this sport.

Old derailleurs work. I swapped out an old 105 for a friend of mine and it was a straight swap on shifters/STI only. Needed new cables.

IMO the shape of the new hoods is worth it, or at least is a non-cosmetic incentive

the line from shimano is that they changed the amount of brake cable the levers pull, so while using older calipers with new levers will still slow your bike the feel will be "hard." Tested both configs and more or less agreed.
