My new 2011 Spec. Secteur Elite!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My new 2011 Spec. Secteur Elite!

I did it!! I finally broke down and bought a new 2011 Specialized Secteur Elite! Price: $1250. They also gave me a 50% discount on a new carbon fiber water bottle cage. Sweet!
The tech took about 1.5 hours with me to fit the bike. He swapped out the part of the stem that connects to the handlebar, adjusted handlebar height, adjusted seat height, angle and back/forward position, measured me and the bike 20 times, used all sorts of tools and gadgets for measuring and even installed my new wireless cyclometer. I like this shop!!!

Pics are attached. I had to lean it against a little guitar amp. It's all I had handy.

Well, I cud've called it a "gooseneck". If that piece is the stem, then what do
you call the vertical part it's connected to, the part with the spacers?

I don't have any experience with brake lever shifters so I wasn't biased when
considering Shimano vs. SRAM. But I gotta say I totally love the SRAM! Very
comfy on the hoods and very easy to brake from the hoods. Also, I love that
I can pull the shift lever in while in the drops for rapid fire upshifting during sprints.
But I've only been on one ride so far. I'm sure I'll only grow to love it more!

The seat!! My butt starts hurting at about the 11 mile mark! But I've still managed to put about 200 miles on her.
Apart from that the bike is freakin' awesome! I haven't paced above 18mph in 14 years and now cruising at 21 is
no problem. Feels soooo different! I'm heading out shortly to put another 20 on her. But first, a quick search
of the forums for saddle recommendations. I know, I know, everyone has their faves, but I gotta start somewhere!

Nice ride. I am looking at getting one of those myself (though, hopefully not in white), as I am very intrigued by the SRAM Apex group. I am hoping to test ride one soon up here near Toronto. It also sounds like the shop did you a solid with the setup and fit. Good job and happy riding....lots of it!

Cheers,

Brian J.

Your front brake is the same as the one on my 2011 Allez, both of which has that small, square piece of what looks like duct tape. Can anyone explain this to me?

At a guess it would be to keep the cable arm from hitting and scratching the brake arm during installation.
