Dropped for the first time.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dropped for the first time.

It had to happen and I am glad it is done. I was holding on and knew it was going to be a tough ride but I could not keep up on the last 10 miles. There was one rider that I passed and he said 'I'm done'. I did slow down so I could pull him along so I was not the last rider but he was a good excuse for being late. We were behind about 2 minutes.
It was then I found out they were all Cat 2-3 riders. Even after being dropped I felt OK since I have only started to seriously start riding this year.
Wait till next week [I might only be one minute behind].

Don't feel bad, it happens to everyone.

My first "A" group ride was similar. I was hanging on, until the first climb where I was absolutely shelled.

Turned out that two of the guys up front were pros.

I agree, it feels good to be dropped. Makes me feel like I have really done something meaningful that day.

If you are a Cat5 and get shelled by a Cat3 just say it... not everyone that blows your ass out of the water is a Pro...and you don't have to make yourself feel better that someone other than a pro is better than you...just say'in :/

I'm not trying to impress anyone. One of the riders was Angelo Cialone, and I don't know the name of the other one. They're both ex-pros.

Angelo runs Biketek in Pittsburgh, a shop that any Pittsburgh native should know.

Maybe for a second you will realize that not everyone on the internet is out to impress others. On this occasion, I got dropped by two guys who were pros. I have been dropped by cat 3 racers numerous times. That's just not what happened in the event I posted about.

Almost every ride I am on, I am on the verge of getting dropped. But, I always hung on. The last month or so I was feeling good, since I was not so tired at the end of the rides. I decided to join another group that rides a little further [from 50 to 80 miles] and faster. Boy, that is when I knew, I was not as good as I thought. I now know what a 22% grade hill is like and how long it takes to scale a 8 mile hill that is 6-7% grade. I had a great time, no one yelled at me [esp. the last 10 miles, Ha, Ha] and now I found a group that I can try to keep up with.
