Bike taken by the police

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The discussion is clearly more interesting now than when it started! I can understand why you left cali (it's not a cheap place to live) but why move to a place that is SO manifestly impractical? It also sounds like what you do can be done form your home anywhere. There are walkable places that aren't crazy expensive - finding a job there above and beyond packing groceries would be the main obstacle (unless you have the wherewithal to start your own; in that case finding opportunities might be hard), but if you can do remote contract work you might already have the revenue part resolved. I can't imagine that, say, Burlington VT is any more dull than Birmingham, AL but it's a whole lot more pedestrian and bike friendly.

c0urt, you have my best wishes. I can't imagine how it must feel to lose all those things, indeed I can say that I would not be happy if I had to give up all of my hobbies and lifestyle either due to something out of my control.

After my accident, I was conscious. When they were putting me in the ambulance, I asked what they were gonna do with my bike. The cop says they'd take it to the station. I replied "nope, she rides with me". The cop looks at the ambulance driver, who shrugs his shoulders and says "ok". When we get to the hospital, ambulance guy says he'll leave my bike at the emergency room door. I say "nope, she goes where I go". So he looks at the nurse and she shrugs her shoulders and says "ok". So in the ER bay there is exactly enough room for my stretcher and my bike

Doc walks in, looks at the bike, and says "the components are in good shape, the frame is shot, now let's have a look at you"

Initially ii, like many others here thought the op, was a dooshbag but now I find this story amazing. You should contact local media and have them do a story on your situation.

I truly understand what the OP is going through, basically just a guy who has a heart and is fighting seizures everyday to ride what he loves, "bicycles." I have a lot of respect for the OP.

I'm in the "try a bent trike" boat.

Is Birmingham really hilly? If it isn't, you'll be safer and faster in a 'bent.

C0urt, what do you think of that recumbent a few posts up? That TET cycles thing? Best wishes to you and your tough position.. having to wake up to missing teeth and ambulances... and I complain about going to work or my *****y wife. So I appreciate the reality check - best of luck!

A real reality check is sitting in the e.r for me. Was sitting in the E.R. and realizing that in the big picture. I have easy.
Go work a food not bombs or feed people through some other volunteer work.
It will make you feel words luckier. :-)

I have fewer speeding tickets now that I have to ride a bicycle
