2011 Scott CR1 team model?
 

Hey everbody what is the general consensus of Scott bikes, in particuar the CR1. How's the over all quality control, what do you think about the carbon fiber they use and the way that they build up the frame, etc. Does any one have a idea of what the retail would be on the 2011 CR1 Team with the 105 Gruppo? Thanks in advance.

I've been riding my CR1 Pro for 3 years and over 15,000mi. Rides just like the first day I bought it.

I've been thinking about the same bike but hate to buy without riding one. The info I have heard is that the CR1 Pro with Ultegra will be around 3000 again and the new 105 5700 equipped team will be around 2000. I just wish I could find a good picture of the new bikes.

My CR1 Team has been awesome! More and more I ride the more I appreciate the bike.

I think the bike retails for about $2000-2200. Since it's the end of the model year, I bought mine for under $1700.

I am no expert on bike build quality, but all joints look smooth, paint looks great. My one issue has been with the Aksium rear wheel. It pulse during braking but the LBS swapped out the rear wheel.

Really is a fantastic bike!

Edit...just realized you asked about the 2011 model. Mine is a 2010.

The CR1 is a monocoque frame which means it came from a mold, therefore no joint junctions.

Just built up a 2010 Pro and I love this bike. Coming off a Tarmac, the Scott is more plush for a lack of a better word. It suits me perfectly. Will be a joy to put many miles on it.

I have a 2010 CR1 Comp, all the CR1's have the same frame, love the bike rides like a dream. Very quick and responsive, great on the uphills and very agile downhill.

I have a 2010 CR1 Pro and love it.

It rides great, has a great BB, and spins up well. All of those things mentioned could probably also be said of the Tarmac Expert. The Scott does a couple things better than the competition:

- As a complete bike it tends to be spec'ed better (better wheels over similarly priced models out)
- Lighter (if not the lightest) bike than almost any other bike in the same price range
- Stiff BB, compliant rear end. Perfect combo IMHO. In terms of compliancy along the range of bikes I testrode: Compliant --> Stiff (Cannondale SystemSix, Trek Madone 4.5, Scott CR1, Specialized Tarmac)

Negatives:
- Paint smoothness.... not that great. I assume, part of their NET process that omits the top-layer cosmetic layer, also serves to smooth out irregularities. The outer-most surface of the Scott frames has some very subtle "wave" to it. Its not bad, I can take pics, but if you want butter-smooth paint and joints, the Scott is not your winner here. It makes up for this in lightness and I will take that any day.
- Warranty - Specialized has a lifetime warranty and a wide network. Scott is smaller and offers only a 5 year warranty.

thanks to all for the great responses, it seems like those who have them really like them! It does seem that they give you a lot of bike for the money. I hope that the 2011 team with the 105 retails for around 2000.00. I think that it would be hard to find another 17 lb bike with very good carbon, and full 105 for that type of money.

After a unfortunate crash I bent the non replaceable rear derailleur hanger on my 09 CR1. Even though it is not a warranty replacement since it was my fault, Scott has a quite reasonable crash replacement program. So after being rebuilt I now have a 2010 CR1 Pro frame. I only have 70 miles in on it but the bike feels just as responsive as the previous model, but does feel better over cattle guards and brick roads. For a XL 58cm with pedals, bottle cages and a bulky Cateye V2C double wireless computer the shops scale had the weight at 16.08lbs. My mechanic at the LBS owns a Addict, and has had quite a bit of seat time with the new CR1 and was really impressed with the ride quality.

Anybody know where Scott CR1 frames are made? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm getting back into bikes and I'm leaning heavily towards the CR1 Team model.

i don't know where you live, but my shop got the 2011 teams probably a month ago. we sell them for 2k. the paint scheme looks just like the 2010 cr1 pro, the red and black scheme. you'd be hard pressed to find a lighter, but still smooth carbon bike at this price point, and the new 105 is a nice improvement.

I have an '07 or '08 Pro, can't remember they were essentially the same except one is black with clearcoat (mine) and the other painted white.

I love the ride. Handles really well and is fairly comparable to steel frames I've ridden. I understand they've since made the frames a little more relaxed in their geometry but I assume they are still well made and ride great.

Bought mine at REI (my LBS) on closeout for $2300 down from just under $3K.

They have a compact with SRAM Rival on sale now for $2200.

I really enjoyed my Scott Cr1 2009 Comp. Unfortunately, I cracked the derailleur hanger and Scott wants $800 to replace the hanger! I'd rather put that money on a brand new much better design bike than a SCOTT CR1 Comp. It sucks coz I've only had the bike for a year. I'm now looking for a new frame or a new bike. I would advice against the Scott CR1.

Still loving my 2006 CR1 SL after ~ 25,000 km - if I had to buy another frame today I would get a CR1 again. The geometry changed slightly for 2009 (slightly longer head tube), making it slightly more "comfortable", but I never found it harsh anyway.

I'm picking mine up this morning! 2011 CR1 Team. I cant wait to get home and start putting some miles on it.

My LBS dumped Scott like a bad girlfriend after the third frame that failed that Scott found one excuse or another not to warranty.

One of the Scott owners is in my sons club. Frame snapped at the headtube on a clean downhill and the bike crashed. Scotts "not warranty" reason? "Bike was involved in a crash". LBS made it good. He operated on a three strikes rule though so out the door went Scott. Other two were similar.

I just picked up my CR1 Team on Thursday and got it out for it's first real ride today. I have not been on a bike since the end of May when I was hit except for the test rides I did and the ride I took it on when I picked it up.

I really like the bike. I'm sure the more I ride it the more I will come to enjoy it. The frame is plenty stiff for me and yet the buzz of the chip seal is very muted. The new 105 works just fine and looks much better than the old 105. I really like what they did with the hood shape and the width of the hoods where they meet the bars. Nice transition and a bit wider I think...very comfy.

I do believe the RD hanger on the new CR1's are replaceable and I'll also be finding out just how well they treat their customers. I gave the bike a pretty good look over but when I got it home found about a 1" long scratch/chip down the front of the head tube. I sent pictures to the bike shop and they sounded pretty confident that I could get a replacement. I'm counting on that. Total with tax was right around 2100.00 so I expect a bike without damage.

So far the bike shop has treated me really well so we'll see what happens.
