Thinking about getting clips
good idea? Bad? Newer road bike rider... but mountain biked when I lived in the booneys. What are the pros and cons of getting clips?
|
You mean toe clips ? Those have been replaced by clipless pedals.
Pros: More efficient, more stable, more comfortable, feet stay in place Cons: Some people fall over when first using them because they forget to unclip. |
Actual toe clips and straps can be used with almost any type of shoe. Commuters or others who don't want to carry another pair of shoes might find this useful.

I think your confused on terminology.
Clipless pedals are the ones you click into. Clips is short for toe clips which are the cages your put your feet into that are attached to a standard pedal. A standard pedal is called a platform. Pros and Cons are as Homebrew01 said. I would add you will eventually fall over if you ride clipless long enough. Not a bad fall but simply a come to a stop then tip over. At the same time you might have a higher speed incident where clipless will keep you from crashing. |
May as well also add to the con list: walking into the coffee shop in cleats.

Yup totally mixed up! Sorry about that!!! hahaha, what are the pros and cons of having clip less pedals. And why are they clip less if you "clip" in? Thanks!!!

Biggest pro for me is pedal form. Other than that I think they are lame and amazed they have caught on with recreational riders.
