Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2011 Tarmacs

Specialized now has the 2011 bikes on their US website : https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...nuItemId=14878

Pretty interesting that the entry-level Elite model now only comes with SRAM Apex, not with 105. Also the Elite Apex and Comp Rival bikes have 52/36 cranks, which I guess is a semi-compact.

Then buy the bike with the Ultegra, sell off the parts and buy Force. You can usually sell new Ultegra for more than you would be paying for Force.

SRAM must be heavily subsidizing their OEM program. If you can't bring new products to market, sell the old ones CHEAP and get them mounted on new bikes.

I'm sorry, those are some of the fugliest wheels in the history of the sport. Nice frames though.

They sell the same frame as on the bike with Ultegra, so "can't" seems strange.

I have thought about doing that. Though, I would have to pay for installation, and I just want to ride the thing already. I have been waiting for about a year to get it, and any extra time could kill me.

Financially it doesn't make sense. I have little money and it is technically a college graduation gift, so upping the cost seems wrong.

Like how they cheaped out on the Elite with non sram brakes and non-Apex crank. Also no 11-32 which is supposed to be the whole point of Apex in the first place.

It is not a matter of need. It is a matter of want. And if there is a market for it, who is to stop them from making money out of that demand?

If you came to our shop, we'd just switch out the cassette and RD (assuming its a short cage and needs switching) to accommodate your wussy needs

No one has mentioned the fact that their all SL2 frames either? Cmon guys, big picture!

A lil bit of info. The main reason why Apex is around: Alberto Contador needed a 32t cog on his 50/34 for a TT and SRAM used a mountain RD and cassette. If he used it, then anyone could use it.

People forget that others, sometimes, have to go up serious grades.

And also that Apex just formalized the marketing of a product combination that people were buying already. Nothing new but the name.

I'm not entirely convinced it's gone. I need to talk to the rep about it. Last year it was on the site, but the year before, when I got mine, it wasn't. It was kind of an unpublished option. Hopefully it's the same. Otherwise I wonder if I would fit on a 52

I wonder why they did away with the BB30 on all but ONE of the S-works frames.

I'm not sure where you got that idea. They didn't do away with it. It used to be that you couldn't even get a frame with BB30, you had to get a complete bike or a module. So the OSBB frameset replaces the module. For 2011, all of the s-works complete bikes (Ltd, DA, and SRAM) have BB30 and only the non-OSBB frameset doesn't. The Pro complete bikes also have BB30 but the expert and lower does not. This is similar to last year.
