What do you Roadies think about Zipp 404 clinchers?
Badass no??
|
I have the older design from last year (alu braking surface). Amazing wheels. Solid, aero, fast, not really all that heavy (they're 1650 grams or so with stock hubs, mine has a Powertap on the rear so it's heavier). The newer ones are really badass, all CF, different profile.
Love mine. I also have Zipp 404 tubulars which are lighter. I like the ride of the clinchers better. |
I think they're heavy and expensive and HED makes a much better wheel for much less money.
|
Badass, regardless of weight and cost.
|
I liked mine but sold them within a month of having them and went with tubulars. If you are racing then tubulars are the way to go. If you aren't racing then 404 clinchers are an awesome wheelset.

I want some, at least with the aluminum braking surface.

The new all CF 404's are the Schwag.
|
Guy at the LBS yesterday said they had a pretty hefty backorder going on right now, at least.

They're not heavy at all for 58mm clinchers. They have cool dimples. They are pricey. They're Zipps. They may be above your pathetic Fred pay grade. So it goes. The Zipp clinchers are great for racing in my view for most race courses. Not as good if you're doing a ton of climbing. But for crits/rolling courses they rock.
also, the Zipps are rather fragile, so i hear. much better as race-only wheels. |

I've got the ones with the aluminum braking surface which is fine by me so I don't have to change out my brakes every time I change my wheels. |

Had the hed jet60's for a couple years. ('08 version)
trained on them, raced them, rode it in the rain, packed dirt, cobbles, grass, etc my weight is 165lb. pretty tough wheels, I can vouch for them. They make a cool sound on the asphalt. to me they were ok as long as the road was flat as I found them to be flexy. Disappointing for wheels that cost me $1200cad new. The front hubs were pretty smooth, but I can climb at equal speed with ksyrium equipes and descend at the same speed too. so...for me, it just looked pretty. sold them few months ago. Edit: Made no difference on the flats either |
