New Sub Forum / Beginners Corner

What say you? :deadhorse:

Namenda 08-26-10 07:26 AM

Sounds like a great idea. Therefore, don't hold your breath.

merlinextraligh 08-26-10 07:28 AM

And the point would be?

So that the slightly more experienced beginners can misinform the completely new beginners who don't know any better.

I can do that

Protection from flaming?

tagaproject6 08-26-10 07:40 AM

They can learn how to splash water and spit on errant motorists?!?

The only way I see you're really going to get that is if the long term, occassionally grumpy members don't post in it.

Which then would lead to this.

I don't see anything good coming of it.

Isn't that standard operating procedure here already?

coasting 08-26-10 08:51 AM

i love this idea. you get all the newbs penned in to one area where we can throw our smartass abuses. this will work.

mrbUSA 08-26-10 08:59 AM

Why don't some riders wave back?

DScott 08-26-10 09:05 AM

They should just open the women's forum to all she-cyclists and newbs.

The mothering instinct will kick in, the youngins will get a chance to grow up protected from harsh realities with sweet nurturance, and when the need to leave the nest finally kicks in, they can venture out into the HTFU world of the 41.

Yes?

I like the way you think.

DScott 08-26-10 09:16 AM

Thank you. I'm sure the gals would be more than happy to oblige.

I suppose someone should ask them.

Ok, sounds good. But how long before they're weened off of the noob cycling teat? Are they intiaited by the cinzano treatment on their first group ride?

This is pretty unnecessary.

I'd make the final exam reading the entire "yelling" thread. If they can get through that without crying to mom or the mods, AND if they respond with an urgent need to post in it, they can come on over.

For or against, doesn't matter.

Spire 08-26-10 09:27 AM

For those of us unfamiliar with the "yelling" thread, which one might that be?

umd 08-26-10 09:28 AM

This has been discussed to death privately by the moderators with many other members involved and it's just not going to happen. Beginners should read the sticky at the top, that will protect them from flaming.

Fair enough. It's not the concern about flaming because that would happen regardless. It would just break the forum up a bit more; so instead of main forum displaying a lot of what to buy (even I posted this type of question in here); the beginners forum would provide a place for these types of questions. The main forum would be a step up regarding more detailed questions and then the race forum is a step up further. Right now it seems that BF has the far left and far right; without any middle group.

Cheers!

It's similar, but it would lack the newb who doesn't know what they don't know getting into an argument with someone who knows what they're talking about. As these can be a source of much entertainment, and occasionally even teach someone something, this could only be a downgrade.

You're going to have to go ask the gals which one that is. :thumb:

Don't worry, they don't bite!

...much.
