Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Component group change advice please.

So, here is my story.
I want a Tarmac.
I want the SL3, but I also want SRAM.
I can't afford to the Pro with Red.

I was wondering how difficult it is to sell the Ultegra components and purchase Force. Will I get 1000 dollars for "used" but never ridden Ultegra. How much does the typical LBS charge to remove the old and install the new group.

Thank you for your expertise.

Selling the Ultegra is very easy, but not for $1000. Why not speak to your LBS about changing the groupset right off the bat?

I don't have the tools, so it would most likely cost about the same to pay someone, right?

Also, the last thing I want is a 3000 dollar bike that is poorly put together because I did it.

It will still be cheaper and easier than taking off the Ultegra, selling it, swapping Force on...

Alternatively, there really isn't that much difference between the SL2 and SL3 frame, and the Comp Rival is $1000 less than the Expert with Ultegra.

I think I will. I just don't know what they would charge me for Force and I may have to pay extra to do the swap.

So, you would be happy with the comp? If you could have gotten SL3 and Force, but it would have required a little work.

Would 900 be more reasonable? What should I expect?

BTW, anyone interested in a like new Ultegra group sometime in the Future.

For what it's worth, I did what you are doing for my previous bike, my 08 S-works SL. I wanted Red, and it only came as a complete bike with DA or as a frameset. I wanted the OSBB, so my only choice was to get the complete bike, sell off the DA, and put the Red on. I may have nearly broken even, but only because I got a substantial team discount.

Go to ebay, and look at what the various Ultegra components are selling for. You probably won't get anyone to buy the whole thing, so I would advise pricing them individually.

I know my local bike shop would charge $120 for the mounting, probably add $40 more for the take offs. And I'm talking about Helen's (iMartin cycles).

I also saw many bikers on craigslist advertising a component swaps for cheap, but not sure how their service stacks up.

Yes it is 6700. Hey I will do an even trade for Force or about the 900 dollars it will cost to buy it on ebay. Oh and this will not be happening until about November.

Why do want to trade ultegra for Force? Both good but I give Ultegra the edge over Force for shifting dynamics only.
