Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hugi DT Swiss

I have been offered a pair of wheels build with the Hugi DT Swiss hubs. Rims are Mavic made but not very known model to me (not ksyrium, not open-pro etc.; maybe cosmic). The wheels are not very light, but the hubs look and feel really good to me. Price is ~ $475. What do you think about the wheels? Is this a reasonable deal? Thank you,
D.

PS I am only a recreational rider, no racing or serious training. ~ 100 miles/week of some hills and fun.

are the wheels new? if not, then they are overpriced. you can get those hubs on a set of open pros from excel sports for that much.

I think what Phatman said is true. But without knowing the specific rim and spokes, plus whether they are new and who built them, it's difficult to make a fair assessment.

If you're talking Canadian dollars, the price might not be so bad.

You might want to check out similar wheels at Excel Sports and Colorado Cyclist to get comparative figures.

Thanks for your answers. The wheels are new and I am talking US$.

I have checked the Excell site and the closest I could come with the same hubs and open pro rims was $525 choosing the cheapest everything but the rims and hubs. So, it sounds like the deal is decent. How are the hubs? They are quite a bit more expensive than Dura Ace hubs even, are they worth the money?

Once again, thank you for the suggestion to look at Excell. I did not know that they custom build whells.

Ive used a set of those hubs.. pretty bombproof.. used to be that the freewheel was loud as heck. so if you want to be stealth forget about it. not sure on the newer models though.

cheers-
Jim
