Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wet / Winter Weather Tires List

well i've been searchin through this forum and have not really found a good list of tires(700 x 23 or 25) that are for wet / winter weather. so its time to make a list.

Conti GP 4 Seasons (a bit tougher than the 4000 series, but not as supple)

Slicks. And I'm not kidding. Sipes are cosmetic. If you want grip, select a tire that wears easily in the summer, it will be a softer compound and in the winter cold/wet it will be softer than other but wear like a summer tire.

This was hashed out yesterday.

So don't change tires if you are happy with what you have. You'll be wasting money. Of course we are not discussing riding on ice.

+1 on the Conti GP4000s tires... I've had good results in the wet with them...

Bontrager Hardcases. They're heavy, ride like crap, and the grip is bad, but they're cheap, durable, very resistant to cuts, and easy to mount compared to other puncture resistant tires. Great for cold rides in the dark and the wet.

I love these in the bad weather. Not very sticky so they don't pick up stuff and cause flats. Rode a set on my fixie/ss which is about all I ride outside in winter. Zero flats.

They're not bad for relatively clean roads, but grip is mediocre and mine got cut to pieces, including a flat on the maiden voyage. Having said that, if I had only one set of tires I used all the time, they're decent all 'rounders.
