Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

terrible ride...

been very stressed lately and decided to go out for a short, but relaxing ride to the beach and back, 20 mile round trip...so i head out and immediately feel the burn in my feet, i figure once i get warmed up, it'll be fine, 5 miles in the pain is almost unbearable, and i have to turn around, while riding the 5 miles back home hating myself i come to an intersection and look back to make sure there are no cars so i can get out of the right turn only lane, see nothing, start pedaling back up to speed, and out of no where this dam white dodge charger decides to go into the straight lane, cut me off, and then go back into the right turn only lane, passenger looks back and laughs at me. i was going to catch up to them at the stop light and pepper spray him for being an ass (note im in a terrible mood) but decide to let it go, since my feet burn like hell.

question is, is this just my off day or something? i did move the saddle 5 mm's forward from what it was before. is the foot pain caused by improper saddle adjustment?

Using the pepper spray would have been a dumb idea.

Yeah I have days like this every once in a blue moon. Every once in a while something is just off, maybe slightly heading towards overreaching or something, but have a horrible mood while on the bike. Just shake it off, and start looking forward to your next ride. No use to keep dwelling on that horrible ride.

Chevy doesn't make the Charger -- sorry, I get touchy when it comes to Mopar.

I've had moments on rides where I think "Why am I doing this?" But then I hit some stretch of road or the perfect cadence that reminds me why. It's a little like golf...87 crappy shots with about 5 good ones that you remember and make you go back for more.

Move your saddle back 5mm and pedal in anger. The adrenaline buzz can lead to a good ride and clear your head.

doood,

cycling angry is even more stooopid than driving angry.

oh, and a handful of rocks gives you more stand-off distance than pepper spray.
